Athletes Cleared to Return to Campus and May Compete in Spring

Eastern New Mexico University recently approved the return of student-athletes to campus in order to prepare for potential winter and spring competitions. All student-athletes will be tested for COVID-19once they arrive on campus, and must document a negative test result prior to participating in any team activities.

Both men’s and women’s basketball teams returned to campus in October, while the other programs returned during the first week of November.

Teams began a resocialization phase, preparing for the winter and spring schedules while adhering to strict COVID-19 safety guidelines outlined by the state of New Mexico, the Lone Star Conference and the NCAA.

All coaches and staff members were encouraged to invite student-athletes who chose to live in Portales or the surrounding areas for their Fall 2020 semester for this initial resocialization phase. A full return for all athletic programs is expected to occur in early January 2021.
