$12 Million Raised for New Stadium

2014 was a fantastic year for Eastern New Mexico University! Starting off 2015, ENMU has raised $12 million for the new $14 million ENMU athletic stadium. This is monumental for ENMU and the ENMU Foundation.

According to Stephen Doerr, the ENMU Foundation board president, “The Stadium Planning Committee has been working for months with the architect design team, and the official stadium plans for the $14 million stadium are almost completed. The stadium will be a state-of-the-art facility with natural turf, an eight lane track and an enclosed hospitality level for fans to enjoy the game indoors. ENMU Foundation is in charge of and is spearheading the efforts to raise the additional $2 million needed to fully cover the cost of the $14 million stadium. In that regard, the ENMU Foundation Board of Directors has committed to raising an additional $3 million (for a total of $15 million) to finish the proposed stadium and have funds available for additional walkways to the stadium, signage, lighting, park benches and other necessary augmentations.”

ENMU President Dr. Steven Gamble acknowledges, “We are fortunate to have such generous alumni and community support getting behind this new stadium. ENMU has a beautiful campus and the pride in the on-campus stadium will be immeasurable.”

“Many thought the original $12 million campaign goal was out of our reach, but it was realized,” explained Noelle Bartl, executive director of the ENMU Foundation. “It is because folks believe in ENMU and the need for this new stadium on the main campus. They showed their support with their contributions. Thank you to all who committed to the campaign in 2013 and 2014. We need those of you who have still been thinking about joining the campaign to do so in 2015. The time is now to be a part of something big for ENMU’s future.”

If all goes as planned, construction for the new stadium will begin this spring with plans to open the new stadium in the fall of 2016.

What has been amazing so far with this stadium project is the number of individuals who are donating. Donations have come from local businesses, friends, and colleagues at ENMU and most importantly, students and former students. Donations have ranged from $25 to several hundred thousand dollars, and numerous donors have made pledges for annual donations.
