TheIronmanTriathlonisagruelingeventthatchallengeseventhemost dedicatedathletesfromallovertheworld.Itrequiresalevelofphysical andmentaltoughnessthatisunmatchedinanyothersport.Itisatestof strength,endurance,andresiliencethatpushescompe�torstotheirlimits andbeyond.

AsIthinkabouttheIronman70.3,evenifitishalfofthefullIronman experience,Iamremindedoftheprocessofforgingiron(probablyfrom watchingtheHistoryChannel’s“ForgedinFire”seriesformanyyears haha).Justasironisheated,shaped,andmoldedintoastronganddurable tool,sotootheyareforgedthroughcountlesshoursoftraining,discipline, andsacrifice.

Justastheblacksmithusesheattoshapetheiron,thesecontendersmust enduretheintenseheatofboththesunandthecompe��on.Pushing throughpain,fa�gue,anddoubttobequenchedandemergestrongerand moreresilientthaneverbefore.

Finally,justasthefinishedproductofaforgedirontoolisstrong,reliable, anddurable,sotooarethefinishers.Theyhavebeentestedandrefined, andtheyemergefromthecompe��onwithasenseofprideand accomplishmentthatisunmatchedinanyotherendeavor.

March25,2018wasthedateofthefirstever Ironman70.3Davao.MywifeandIlivednearbyand walkedtotheAzuelaCovewheretheSwimmingleg andCyclingtransitionwerestaged.

MarkusRolliwontheDavaoAlveoIronman70.32019 a�erhetookanearlyleadandmaintainedit, comple�ngtheraceinthreehours,forty-nine minutes,andtwenty-nineseconds.Despitebeinga professionaltriathleteforonlytwoyearsatthe�me, RollihadwonboththeDavao70.3andthe2017 Thailand70.3�tles.

Scorching35Cºtemperatureswitha94%humidity inlateMarchforbothyearsareenoughtooverheat andweakeneventhestrongerathletes.These “cooling”stationsbytheroadwayareinstantrelief theoverheatedrunners!
