mig’s visual meanderings

is a monthly zine that builds on the concept of seeing “Life through enlivened eyes” or in tagalog for “makita ang buhay gamit ang matang buhay”.

Through The Contemplative Maniniyot (Maniniyot is a Bisaya word for Photographer. Bisaya is one of the major dialects in the Philippines.)

As a contemplative photographer, one strives to reflect and respond to each moment presented. To achieve this, practice in awareness through regular brain exercises, meditation, mindfulness leads to insights left by walking Life’s meandering path. The result of this is a creation of an interesting image through the eyes of the author. This zine, therefore, is about seeing the profound in the mundane and sometimes profane.

The author encourages the viewer to let the photo speak its story in however way it can. Listen to it (witholding any judgement, if you can just for a moment) individually or as a set and decide what it wants to say to you through its visual narrative.

About Issue 4:

Almost two weeks enjoying the cities of Spain. It is great to wonderfully experience the people, culture, (most deliciously) food and beverage.

In my opinion, Madrid is a very sophisticated place to be in. While Cordoba, we enjoyed tremendously, perhaps because of its charming old town feel. Sevilla, on the other hand, needed to grow on us more (another visit most likely.)

Barcelona was an enjoyable tourist haven with a melting pot of people and cuisine.

The photos that follow are set in each city and is best viewed as a diptych. I also include at the end some photos of The Dubai Mall where we went to in our quick lay-over

So happy and grateful to my wife, Rowie, for being with me in this #vacYAY!

The magnificent view of the world’s tallest structure by pinnacle height, Burj Khalifa from our 9th floor suite at the Radisson Blu Waterfront, Dubai.

Kudos to the front office for their empathy towards our situation. We cut our trip short to fly back home and be with my father-in-law who was critically ill.

Thank you hermano Rolly Batacan for being with us. Rolly planned to bring me to some spots in Dubai but due to the circumstances, we had coffee and conversations about our passion.

A growth-service-oriented person for the past twenty-three years, Jose Miguel “migs” Lisbona, worked in the hospitality, academic services and human development fields.

Migs is a visual artist interested in the street, documentary, minimalist and contemplative photography genres. Photography for him is about seeing the profound in the mundane and sometimes profane in moments seen. He encourages fellow visual ar tist photographers to shoot what moves them with purpose.

Composing poetry is likewise an interest for him. Often linking haiku, a traditional form of Japanese poetry consisting of three lines having five syllables on the first and last lines and the middle line having 7 syllables, with photography.

Originally from Makati City, Metro Manila, he and his family are now residing in Davao City for the past eight years. Migs is a practicing life-coach. A “fire-starter” if you will, and encourages others and groups to express, connect with their purpose and expand their strengths and abilities. Preparing a safe space for his friends and clients to connect, play and practice their expressions formally through one-on-one, group sessions or informally in his role as an on-line curator/admin/moderator in various social media on-line groups. He loves being with them through collaboration in their hopeful journey until they shine in whatever passion they follow.

He believes in the brilliance that resides within each person, and it is his fervent desire to inspire that spark so each can become centers upon themselves, and ultimately inspiration for others.

It is his ardent purpose to remind and encourage A BRILLIANT LIFE!
