TEACHING WATER SAFETY HELPS CHILDREN BECOME BETTER SWIMMERS

Children who have exposure to water safety tips and training are less fearful when faced with a personal water crisis such as falling in a pool. The Aquatic Center welcomes people of all ages to jump in and learn during WATER SAFETY WEEK. Participants will learn: 1. Pool Rules and Etiquette 2. Sun Safety 3. Benefits of Buddying Up 4. Fun and Safe Water Games

BONUS: According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest swimming lesson class included 1,308 students. On Thursday, June 25 (noon) the Aquatic Center swim instructors need you to help break that record. With your help, it will be accomplished (safely, of course). See ya at the pool!

Cherokee County Recreation and Parks Agency | Spring/Summer 2020

SOME BUNNY SPECIAL Help the Easter Bunny deliver joy to needy children in Cherokee County. The Georgia Family Connection Partnership estimates that more than fifteen percent of Cherokee County residents live in poverty. That equates to more than 2000 underprivileged children. The Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency, in conjunction with the Easter Bunny and the generous people of Cherokee County, will deliver baskets full of happiness to many of those children this year.

BASKET CONTENTS MIGHT INCLUDE: • Easter candy • Easter coloring book • Crayons • Color pencils • Finger paints and paper

• • • • •

Easter socks Nerf balls Child’s baseball cap Paddle ball games Easter puzzles

• Bunny, lamb, or chick stuffed animal • Toy Easter eggs (no real eggs, of course) • Toy trucks, cars, or boats • Easter books (ages 1-12)

DETAILS:

• All baskets MUST be pre-filled. • Baskets may be purchased or hand made. • Contents must not be gift-wrapped. • Fully loaded basket may be wrapped in clear plastic. • Candy needs to be contained in the original, sealed packaging. Inspire Our Children!

Children have a strong, natural drive to be kind and generous—a deeply rooted instinct to share and to help others. One study even found that toddlers enjoy giving to others more than receiving treats for themselves.1 Here are five ways to inspire your child to give at Easter:

1. Shop for the Some Bunny Special basket drive. Start with a basket and hand your child $10 in cash. Together browse a dollar store to find appropriate gifts to fill the basket. 2. Create a card for Some Bunny Special. Hand-drawn cards with colorful messages are always welcome by grandparents, neighbors, and school pals. Include an original card in your donation basket. 3. Make Easter Cookies for the Seniors. Grocery shop with your youngster to pick out the finest sugary sprinkles and cookie cutters. Then mix it up, roll it out, and

sprinkle it on. One trip to the senior center will bring countless smiles and a few cheek pinches. 4. H and off the Some Bunny Special basket. After you’ve assembled the Some Bunny Special basket for the drive, walk into the Recreation Center together but let your child to hand off the basket. The act of giving will warm their little heart.

Flashlight Egg Hunt!

Join us for a flashlight egg hunt! You’ll be able to meet the Easter Bunny, make and take crafts, dance to music, and get your face painted. Food items and Kona Ice will be available for purchase. The flashlights are provided!

Date: Friday, April 3 Check-in time: 7:30 p.m.; (Flashlight Egg Hunt begins at 8:30 p.m.) Location: Cherokee Veterans Park Cost: $10 per child

5. Call a long-distance relative. Children benefit from learning to give the gift of time. Spending five minutes on the phone to wish a long-distance relative a Happy Easter will spread cheer across the miles.
