Beaver Dam is a beautiful, friendly, and welcoming community of nearly 17,000 people centrally located between Madison, Milwaukee and Green Bay/Fox Valley on Highway 151.

These larger cities are easily accessible via a well-connected highway system, and Beaver Dam offers everything needed at a local level from unique small mom and pop businesses to big box retailers.

Beaver Dam and Dodge County offer a little slower pace and less traffic with an abundance of outdoor recreational activities like fishing, boating, or paddling the Beaver Dam Lake and River, camping at one of our Dodge County Parks, biking or hiking the Goldstar or Wild Goose Trails, or visiting the Horicon Marsh Wildlife Refuge Area, Education and Visitor Center, and interactive Explorium Museum. Also, new in summer of 2023, is the Beaver Dam splash pad located at Swan City Park.

While you’re here, make sure to explore all the festivals or fun events, a musical show or play at the Beaver Dam Area Community Theater, attend dirt track races at the Beaver Dam Raceway, take in a comedy show at the Riverfront wine bar, create art at Art on the Town Wisconsin the Studio or Dodge County Center for the Arts, check out Ooga Brewing for their World Award Winning Beer, or live music at various establishments. Bring the whole family for a jam-packed weekend full of carnival rides, live music, vendor fairs, farmers market, food trucks, and a variety of fun activities downtown. The 16th Annual Taste of Wisconsin held the Saturday of Father’s Day from noon-4 pm in downtown Beaver Dam. With over 32 brewers, 100 beers, dozens of cheese varieties and lots of fun, it’s the can’t miss event for the craft brew lover in you.

Come join history in the making as we celebrate the heritage of the heirloom Beaver Dam Pepper at the Park Village Shopping Area. Enjoy Apple pepper pancakes served ALL DAY, square dancing, crafts from many vendors and lots of delicious food featuring our beloved pepper including pepper brats, chili, and apple pepper pie eating contest.

FALL DOWNTOWN FEST

OCTOBER 28, 2023

A spooktacular all day event that embraces everything we love about fall! Highlights include a bewitching Dead of the Night Casket and Witch Parades, Witches Dance Fly-in, Thriller dance, Halloween Bash with live music at Stormy’s Music Venue and Monster Bar Crawl. Participate in our costume contest, scavenger hunt, good fortune telling, arts and crafts, trick or treating and so much more!

SANTA’S HOMETOWN HOLIDAY ADVENTURE

DECEMBER 2, 2023

The day starts with adventures and give-aways all around town. You can see Santa, make crafts, character greets and more. Then enjoy the Cocoa Walk as you bring your sweetheart and your sweet tooth to shop downtown as you enjoy chocolate treats along the way. Find your best position on Front and Spring Street for the Holiday Parade and then enjoy the magic of the holidays with the massive Rotary Lights display in Swan Park.

CABIN FEVER FEST

JANUARY 27, 2024

Get out of your house and enjoy fun all around town both indoors and out with ice skating and snow sledding or euchre and puzzle tournaments and kite flying. Bring your appetite for the soup cook-off, too. There is sure to be something for everyone!

BEAVER DAM FARMERS MARKET: Held May through October in Downtown Beaver Dam you will find fresh produce, handmade and home-grown items on the corner of South Spring Street and Henry Street on Saturdays mornings and Tuesday evenings.

BEAVER DAM LAKE & RIVER: With more than 6700 acres and 42 miles of shoreline, Beaver Dam Lake offers plenty of water adventure opportunities including fishing, boating, and paddling in the summer, duck hunting in the fall, and ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing in the winter. Plan a day or weekend excursion paddling the Beaver Dam River; a class I (one) rated river with known for its whitewater and lazy river sections that winds through the city, rural farmland, and scenic wooded corridors. FISHING BEAVER DAM LAKE: This fourteen-milelong lake, with a maximum depth of seven feet, provides allseason fishing fun with its abundant walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, panfish, and bullheads lurking on the bottom. You’ll also find northern pike and channel catfish ranging from ten to fifteen pounds. If you’d rather stay on shore, there is lots of shoreline available within the City of Beaver Dam.

BEAVERLAND MUST-SKIS WATERSKI TEAM:

The award-winning Beaverland Must-skis waterski team will entertain with a jam-packed show of tricks on water, extreme waterskiing, and jaw-dropping pyramids. Take advantage of their learn-to-ski clinics too. Memorial Day –Labor Day (Sundays)

DERGE COUNTY PARK: A thirteen-acre park just five minutes northwest of Beaver Dam and located on the shore of Beaver Dam Lake at N8379 County Road CP. The park offers overnight camping with electricity, twenty-five campsites with 30-amp hookups and asphalt pads, picnic shelters, shower/restroom building, dump station, boat launch, and canoe/kayak launch.

Beaver Dam – A Canvas for Murals

From historical to contemporary, Beaver Dam city walls are popping with color and history. With 30+ murals around town, you’re sure to find one that catches your eye.

“Portraits of a Hero” Mosaic Murals – Led by Portrait Artist Stephen Bennett & Community Collaboration

Located on the east exterior wall of the Beaver Dam Area Community Theater, there are murals made by the community during the annual Wisconsin Arts and Peony Festivals. These murals honor four notable Beaver Dam citizen in the arts. Designed by world-renowned portrait artist, Stephen Bennet, each 12”x12” square tile was painted by individuals with their own design using assigned color shades, and when they come together, they portray the faces of those four artists.

The artists honored include Nancy Zieman, known for the longest-running sewing series, “Sewing with Nancy” on PBS, in the history of North American television, Lois Ehlert, an American author and illustrator who won the Caldecott Honor for “Color Zoo” in 1990, and Fred MacMurray, an actor who appeared in more than one hundred films and a successful television series that spanned a half-century. In 2023, the fourth and last mosaic “Portrait of a Hero” will be of Broadway actor Eric Kalkhurst, a stage and screen actor known for “The Cat and the Canary,” “Paris,” and “The World Waits” Broadway plays.

Walldogs Mural City

The Walldogs are an internationally renowned organization of sign and mural artists. Its founder, Nancy Bennett, stated that “the Walldogs artists want to beautify America by portraying each city’s history on the murals painted on each of those city’s walls.” Beginning in 2013, the Walldogs have been painting historic murals throughout Beaver Dam with a total of nineteen to date. On the weekend of June 28-July 2nd, 2017, a mural festival was held with 178 artists from around the world and fifteen of these murals were created. Each one portrays a snapshot of Beaver Dam history.

The Arts

BEAVER DAM AREA COMMUNITY THEATRE:

Providing outstanding live theatrical and concert productions since 1964 and drawing actors from surrounding communities. BEAVER DAM ORCHESTRA: A ninety-member volunteer full symphonic orchestra which performs a fall, holiday, and spring concert at Beaver Dam High School. Founded in 1954, the orchestra pulls members from twentyfive different communities in six counties.

Horicon Marsh

Beaver Dam is neighbor to the Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area. Over 10,000 years ago, glaciers carved out the basin that became Horicon Marsh.

Through the years, this important wetland suffered a destructive history, but was protected and restored by a group of dedicated conservationists. Today, thousands of birds and people flock to Horicon Marsh, captivated by the sights and sounds of wildlife in action.

The Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center is conveniently located on Highway 28 between Horicon and Mayville as your first stop to grab maps, hop on the trails and visit the Explorium.

The Explorium is a state-of-the-art, hands-on interactive exhibit. Immerse yourself in the history of the Horicon Marsh. Everything from mammoth smells to airboat rides await you in the Explorium.

With over 300 species to its name, Horicon Marsh is a bird-watching paradise. Watch for colorful songbirds, like scarlet tanagers and blackburnian warblers, during spring migration. Keep an eye out for young during the summer from our nesting Canada geese, great blue herons and American white pelicans. You’ll be awestruck in autumn as thousands of geese, waterfowl and cranes migrate south.

Marsh-wide, over ten miles of hiking trails and two boardwalks take you through different habitats and wildlife viewing areas.

The Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area (southern third) is open for canoeing and kayaking down an approximately six-and-a-half-mile one-way paddle. Check out our website for the Paddling Trail Map, updates and suggestions! horiconmarsh.org

Grab your bike and leave from the Education & Visitor Center to explore Mayville on the new Gold Star Memorial Trail and then connect to other routes around Horicon Marsh. Bike across Old Marsh Road in June, July and August or enjoy the ride on the Wild Goose Trail.

Their new location and state-of-the-art facility is located conveniently off of Highway 151 at 134 Corporate Drive.

SSM HEALTH DEAN MEDICAL GROUP: The new 40,000-square-foot, two-story SSM Health Dean Medical Group clinic recently opened in Beaver Dam’s 151 Business Park. The clinic houses SSM Health Dean Medical Group and Agnesian HealthCare primary and specialty care providers in addition to imaging, laboratory and pharmacy services. The clinic, located just off Highway 151, provides more convenience for patients with upgraded facilities and equipment and allows room for growth.

KRAFT HEINZ COMPANY: Philadelphia Cream Cheese was first produced in Beaver Dam in 1924 by the Phenix Cheese Company. J.L. Kraft purchased Phenix Cheese Company in 1928. In Beaver Dam since 2004, they are a familyowned business with a combined 127 years of experience in the metalworking and machinery building industry.
