BRADY MCCULLOUGH accepted his first job in Career and Technology Education as an Ag Teacher in Noble, Oklahoma.

He has been in the Career Tech System for approximately 34 years. His tenure has included administrative positions at Meridian Technology Center in Stillwater, Tulsa Technology Center, and the State Department of CareerTech. He accepted his first Superintendent position in 2011 at Green Country Technology Center in Okmulgee and became Superintendent at Autry in July 2015 McCullough retired from his position after six years at Autry Tech.

During his time at Autry, McCullough spearheaded several new initiatives, including the purchase of a new training facility at 1802 N. Van Buren, new construction on the east end of the main campus for a diesel technology program, a CNC machine program, a fabrication lab, as well as the renovation of the culinary arts classroom to create a state-of-the-art training facility.

In honor of his dedication, Autry Technology Center named a state-of-the-art lab for him. The McCullough Lab is a high-tech, materials fabrication lab featuring design, prototyping, and light production resources for district members. The lab has two main spaces: the Rapid Prototyping Center and a production floor with zones for metal, wood, and soft goods.

Under McCullough’s leadership, Autry over the last several years also has significantly expanded its footprint in the area surrounding the 30-acre facility.

LETTER from the EDITOR November seems to be a time where we are encouraged to give thanks for the good things in your life, RO but I often wonder, why just November?

B E RT FA U L K Shouldn’t we be encouraged to give thanks every month for the amazing things God has created for us? I suppose that there are times where it may not seem like there is much to be thankful for. Maybe you lost your job. Maybe you made some mistakes and feel like your life can’t get any worse. Maybe you feel like you don’t have anyone on your side. I, myself, have had some of those feelings in the not so distant past. But when I realized what was really important, my life was changed. So even if things seem to not be so great, just remember that there is someone that loves and cares about you, and your identity isn’t in your job, your spouse or what kind of house you live in. Once I figured that out, then its easy to give thanks every day for what I do have. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The word Thanksgiving immediately calls to mind images of pumpkins and pilgrims and all things fall; however, the most prevalent image is food. Thanksgiving is about the feast and food the centerpiece of the celebration.

Families large and small, individuals, groups of friends all have one thing in common. The schedule of the day revolves around what time the turkey will be prepared to perfection and ready to serve hot and fresh. Most people have waited 364 days for this holiday of indulgence to roll back around to eat guilt free and enjoy special foods often prepared just once a year.

As far as Thanksgiving to go catering items are concerned, Walmart lists cooked turkey, ham, macaroni and cheese, yams, collard greens, mashed potatoes, and other dinner items. Their marketing release also mentions “sweet treats” such as pies and cakes.

Additional restaurants in town that will be closed Thanksgiving Day but offering entrees and sides available for ordering in advance include Blazes BBQ, Colton’s Steakhouse, Katy’s Pantry, Rib Crib.

what a treasure that was. I innocently sat at the end of the counter watching, conversing and sharing laughter while my grandma prepared the meal with help from my mom and aunts helping as they were able.

Grandma’s kitchen was small and did not allow for a team of cooks all at once, however looking back I don’t think grandma would have it any other way. She loved her family and loved cooking for them. At least if there ever was time she did not, you never heard it.

Blended families and marriages often result in attending more than one Thanksgiving celebration. At one time, Brandy Hise and her husband Jeremy had three Thanksgiving celebrations to attend with two in one day. Splitting time with parents the tradition was to have lunch with one set of parents and dinner with the other set of parents. Both meals of course all out servings of turkey and all the sides. While the food was a favorite, I enjoyed the fact that the holiday brough my aunts, uncles, and cousins all together. I was one of the youngest out of the group, so I looked up to all of them. I don’t remember not having a football around and while we never had an annual family football game or anything like that, I loved bringing out my inner tom boy out and worked hard to show them year after year how much my spiral had improved. When we were not tossing around the football or eating, we were watching football and all day was filled with humor and fun. I remember laughing so hard, of course I chuckle to myself writing this because I to this day think I have a pretty good sense of humor and can be funny (sometimes I am the only one that thinks so) but my cousins were hilarious. So, for anyone who knows me personally and has had to put up with my wit, you can blame my family. We laughed for hours on end and just enjoyed our time together. Family, football, laughter, and food. Speaking of food, I can’t move on with out giving proper recognition to the amazing homemade pumpkin pie my grandma made. If I had to pick a favorite food at Thanksgiving, yes, I will admit, it is the pumpkin pie.

The tradition of the Lions playing on Thanksgiving Day started long

before he was even born. The Lions began playing on Thanksgiving Day in 1934 and owner George Richards also owned a major radio station. Along with NBC Radio, Richards set up a 94-station network to broadcast the Lions as they took on the Chicago Bears. CBS started nationally televising the Lions’ Thanksgiving game in 1956, and the first ever color broadcast of a football game was the Lions Thanksgiving game in 1965.

Brandy says the tradition has evolved to two different celebrations split up over the course of a couple of days leaving time for more relaxing including football on the outdoor tv, sitting on the patio around the fire pit with family.

Creating A Festive Atmosphere In addition to the amazing food, creating a festive atmosphere with decorating for fall adds to the excitement of the season. tend to enjoy my holidays in order. Fall decorations with a focus on Halloween easily transition to Thanksgiving with the removal of a few witches and ghosts and some themed signs. I used to think I had great decorating style and enjoy my house every year once everything is in its place after the transition from every day to crisp fall comfort. I "used to think” that is, before I met Matt Whittenburg. If you don’t know Matt or have not seen his work as a designer for Enid Floral, you are missing out. He has an eye and talent that honest to goodness can turn a simple pile of ribbon and sticks into a gorgeous masterpiece.

When asked what advice he had for the creatively challenged? He made it sound simple with the following advice. “Get a few things out, bowls and trays, pumpkins, berries, turkey, table runners and napkins…. and start mixing and matching. I’m all about Texture.”

The completed look often appears to be quite expensive, however, Matt shared “most of my stuff is estate sales, hob lob 90% off or family treasure that I enjoy using from granny when I was a child. She was about every holiday.” His granny’s decorating talent and influence is apparent throughout his home which he describes in the witty way only he can convey as a “small house that’s quirky, ostentatious, stupid and sometimes random in the styling like a 90-year-old lady lives here”.

Festive Atmosphere When I started thinking of images to accompany this story my thoughts immediately went to images of Matt’s work. He does professional decorating and does a fabulous job; however, I think my favorite work of his is what he does out of pure enjoyment in his own home and knew I needed to ask him to put something together for the cover. It did not take him long to create not only one masterpiece table presentation, but by making slight adjustments had several different looks in a short amount of time.

Matt refers to himself as an “over decorator.” Meaning just when you think it’s finished, he adds one little thing to complete it. His motto is “when too much is just not quite enough.”

So whether you follow in Matt’s footsteps and go all out with the fall decorating, or use the kids school art on the fridge and call it good, adding a touch of fall décor adds to the festive atmosphere.

PAD is a form of atherosclerosis where plaque builds up and blocks blood flow to one or more limbs.

What are the risk factors and warning signs?

Risk factors include smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, family history of PAD and high blood pressure. PAD is often asymptomatic (meaning that there are no noticeable symptoms) until it’s quite advanced.

PAD may result in hair loss of the lower extremities, coolness of the limbs or claudication. Claudication refers to the pain in the legs when walking or exercising due to a lack of oxygen reaching the muscles and tissues of the lower extremities. Some people with PAD may also experience leg pain that persists when they stop exercising. PAD that is left untreated can lead to non-healing ulcers, pain, gangrene, lower limb amputation, heart attack or stroke.

How is PAD diagnosed and treated?

PAD can be diagnosed through several methods, including evaluation of the ratio of blood pressures of the upper and lower extremities, ultrasound or even CAT scan. Screening for PAD is quick, easy and painless.

If you or someone in your family has risk factors or symptoms of PAD, it's important to get screened. There are many possible causes for this disease, and most can be treated with a combination of medical interventions like medication, stents, rehabilitation therapy and lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise.

There are beautiful parts and sad parts both – and enough twists throughout to keep you on your toes. Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times Author: Katherine May

Even though Wintering isn’t a new release – it’s been out for over a year – now is a wonderful time to read this book. Author Katherine May explores winter as both a literal season on the calendar and also as a figurative season of our lives – times of illness and grief, depression and despair. Wintering is a combination of self-help, memoir, and science, and readers should definitely have a notebook nearby or highlighter in hand.

For May, her husband was sick, her son was severely struggling in school, and she had had to quit her job. But through a variety of approaches, she learned to embrace this winter period of her life. She talks of the power of the outdoors and

the power of song and music. She experiences lagoons and saunas in Iceland and visits Stonehenge at the winter solstice. She encourages cups of tea and getting lost in thick books. Rather than letting the darkness overcome you, May encourages readers to instead use wintering seasons as times to find true rest and to nourish and replenish.

Each section of this book is a different month, from the September prologue to the March epilogue, and each chapter within the sections is a different strategy or tool. This is perfect because this isn’t a book to read quickly just to get to the end; it’s a book where you read one chapter, sit with it and reflect, and then gradually move on to the next one. And as you make that progress, you travel through winter and to the bright spring – literal or figurative – on the other side.

Hey y’all!! It’s Sophia writing the Tween Scene article in Enid Monthly. This and brightens up their month we have a special guest: BREE! Bree and I have been friends day. since 3rd grade! The picture of us was from our first playdate! I am so E: Eggs because excited to be writing the article this month with her so let’s get started. without eggs I would not be able to bake delicious and beautiful deserts.

Y: Your life or in this case my life. I am very thankful to be living and wish for it to never end. I love being able to wake up every morning to see my beautiful family and friends.

Welcome to fall, y’all! It’s the most wonderful time of the year. If you are anything like me, Saturday mornings are spent in a tree with critters scurrying around below while your afternoons are spent yelling at the patio television watching your alma mater struggle on the gridiron. (GO CYCLONES!) I reckon many of you have spent the last few months setting up new stands, cutting shooting lanes, filling feeders, or planting food plots. You’ve also been religiously checking your SIM cards from your cameras or having the photos sent directly to your cellular phone (what a luxury that is!). You’ve somewhat been able to pattern your deer and hopefully have one or two that gets your blood pumping and keeping you awake at night. (Don’t worry, the patterns will all be changing soon, new bucks will emerge and your “shooter” may never have been seen.)

If I had a piece any advice to give to someone new to the sport it would be this: PRACTICE. Bowhunting takes a great amount of skill, patience, and precision. Practice shooting from your stand. Practice at various distances and in various directions. I’d imagine most of you (like me) hate wounding an animal and not being able to recover it.

Spend the time to make sure your equipment is ready and sighted in, and with a little luck and good fortune perhaps you’ll be able to have a new wall decoration.

Baylee Wood and Max Fossett - Golf

by Billy Tipps, EHS Athletic Director The Enid High School Golf teams are in full “swing” this spring, both teams have placed in various tournaments this season. Baylee Wood a Junior, and Max Fossett a Sophomore, are both leaders in our programs.

“Baylee and Max are extremely hard working and they both strive to improve their game,” said David Lee, Enid High Golf Coach.

After a season off due to COVID last spring, Max and Baylee are both more aware of their opportunity and are focused on the team.

Baylee says that “I have learned that when we help each other practice we can do the best we can as a team at our tournaments.” As for Max, he is “learning that teamwork plays a huge part in the success of the program.” Both are trying to help lead their teams in as many ways as possible.

Coach Lee says that “Max is the leader of the boy’s golf team and is dedicated to improving the team.” Max plans to go to college and pursue a degree in the field of medicine and thinks that having been an athlete “has made me a better person and taught me how to work harder to go get what I want.”

Baylee adds that “due to the pandemic we lost a lot of our practice time, and that being an athlete helped me learn how to better balance my time between work, school and golf.” Baylee plans to attend college and study medicine, the skills she has acquired through being a part of the golf team will certainly help her achieve this goal.

Both Baylee and Max offer similar advice to upcoming athletes, Max says “never settle for less and keep pushing.” Baylee’s advice to upcoming athletes is to “do your best and don’t let negativity stand in your way.” Both pieces of advice are great reminders that when faced with adversity it allows us to achieve more.

Both Baylee and Max are great examples of how hard work and dedication to something bigger than themselves can lead to positive outcomes. We wish them good luck with the rest of their season and look forward to seeing them and the golf program continue to grow.

Riley started his career as a teacher and wrestling coach at NEO A&M followed by jobs in various positions at four other high schools. Throughout his career, he has taught U.S History, AP U.S History, Government, and AP Government.

Staying up to date with trends and new releases in the social media and search engine marketing realm is a top priority at Wordy Girl Creative.

From a business standpoint, will we be paying for Metaverse “locations” in 10 years? A virtual Davinci’s and Callahan’s? Time will tell.

New features are often celebrated, but sometimes they’re a cause for pause. As Jeff Goldblum said in Jurassic Park, “[They] were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.”

Does anyone really Tweet anymore? Meanwhile, I’m suddenly 30 and wondering why Gen Z dresses and poses the way they do on Instagram.

TikTok Enters the Business Landscape At the TikTok World event in September, the company shared new tools and concepts on how it plans to monetize its billion-plus audience.

Picture Virtual Reality coffee dates with a Facebook friend you haven’t seen since college. The more I dive into the recent press release, the more I picture scenes from Black Mirror.

At first glance, this concept sounds like a lofty, unlikely goal on Zuckerberg’s end. But consider the technology currently in place. Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are extremely accessible and affordable now. Tie this concept with the long-standing plethora of interactive video games.

The same technology that allows players across the globe to connect, chat and fight zombies in virtual worlds can be applied to the social media realm.

All it takes is time and money, and the social giant lacks neither.

Twitter Gets a New Professional Wardrobe After purchasing Revue (my favorite newsletter software) last year, the News, Weather, Sports platform continues to step into the professional realm.

Twitter’s new feature allows businesses and bloggers to choose the About, Shop, and Newsletter modules. This allows them to label their profile and publish business ads.

The company also announced “future efforts around shopping,” perhaps implying they will join the Instagram and Facebook Shop world - allowing retailers to tag products on their page with online shops for a seamless browsing and buying experience.

Instagram Gets Chatty Facebook purchased WhatsApp in 2014 for roughly $19 Billion, according to Forbes. The texting app seems to finally be growing in popularity.

Here’s my deep dive into the ever-evolving social media landscape: Facebook’s Metaverse Plans Unveiled “Facebook will invest $50 million to help develop the so-called Metaverse more responsibly,” per a company blog post on September 27. The company has begun defining the vague term "Metaverse” as “a cross-device digital world where people can explore and communicate with others they're not physically with.”

When recently booking a reservation, I chatted with the hostess via WhatsApp to find the best available time. Talk about easy and efficient modern customer service!

The app’s Creator Marketplace connects brands with creators, unleashing opportunities for both businesses and the new generation of TikTok experts. This is one of the first opportunities to “apply” to be an influencer. Back in the days of Vine, we watched the funniest and coolest Vine creators get invited by companies to use products in their videos. Suddenly, the Modern Influencer was born.

Now, TikTok has created a robust virtual space to connect these savvy creators with the businesses that need their services most.

Personally, I do not offer TikTok services or use the platform. From a business standpoint, it’s exciting to see that a new generation of social media gurus can be found and hired easily within the app. Before you make this investment, ask your marketing team if your target audience is on TikTok.

Taking business use to the next level, Facebook/ Instagram have been sending alerts, asking users to connect their WhatsApp accounts to their business pages. In September, Instagram announced a new WhatsApp button for professional accounts.

Why not use Instagram chat instead? I’m not sure, but I won’t turn down another avenue for connecting with customers. Try it out by adding a WhatsApp business number under your profile settings. You can even create ads with a WhatsApp call to action!

Granny Bolin's Cheesy Chicken & Noddle Soup

My husband, Doug, and I met in 2007. I was in my late 20’s, he was in his early 30’s. When we met, we were both at the point of our lives of wanting to settle down, get married and start a family. We were married within the first year of meeting. I quickly learned that he came from a long line of outstanding cooks. His mother, Marilyn, always made a full-blown spread for dinner as he was growing up. When I learned of this, I knew I had big shoes to fill!!

On our second or third date, Doug took me to meet his family at the lake.

This was especially exciting for me because growing up, I’d always wanted to go to lakes on the weekend with my family, but time never allowed.

We arrived at the campsite early in the evening on a Friday.

When we showed up, his sister and her family were already there, and Doug’s mom and dad were busy preparing dinner. Marilyn was sitting at the concrete picnic table cutting up potatoes for fried potatoes (a Bolin family staple).

Doug's dad, Ronnie, had Ribeyes marinating and Jena, Doug’s sister, was putting together a salad. It was a scene that I could picture myself in, in the future!

Though there are numerous recipes of Marilyn’s that I LOVE! The two that pop into my head right away are her Ham & Beans and her Cheesy Chicken and Noodle Soup. She only makes ham and beans when her kids’ families are visiting. They are like no other ham & beans I’ve ever had. If Marilyn makes ham & beans when we are visiting and Jena’s family can’t make it, or vice versa, Rodney, Jena’s husband, and I always joke about who Marilyn loves more. In our eyes, Marilyn shows love through her food. So, when she makes ham & beans for you, well then, you rank high in her book.

The same joke goes between Doug and Jena, but it's when Marilyn makes her famous sweet tea. Apparently, she only makes it when Doug’s family is visiting, which is a good thing, because her sweet tea is TO DIE FOR!!! It’s obvious who she loves more, don’t ya think?

The other recipe, Cheesy Chicken and Noodle soup, is amazing, comforting and light, all at the same time! The first time I had this soup was around Christmas time. We were visiting Doug’s parents for the holidays. We showed up after dinnertime, but we were so hungry when we got there. She whipped up this batch of cheesy chicken noodle soup and I can remember the first time that I tasted it. It had chunky carrots, tender egg noodles and this cheesy broth that was so flavorful!! It has become a staple in our house ever since. My Dinner Diva Facebook group has come to love it as well!

And you know what?

It is SO SIMPLE!! But Marilyn has this way of taking a recipe and making it greater than it ever was intended to be! She’s that way with many things in her life, but since this is a recipe column, we’ll leave it at that.

November Recipe Granny Bolin’s Cheesy Chicken & Noodle Soup

Ingredients • 6 cups of chicken broth • 1 Tbsp. chicken base • 2+ tsp. Salt, pepper & dried parsley. Add or omit, to your liking.

• 2 Tbsp. granulated garlic and 2 Tbsp. onion powder • 1-2 Tbsp. oil of choice • 3 medium carrots, sliced • 3 stalks of celery slice • 16 oz. wide egg noodles • 3 cooked chicken breasts, shredded or cubed • 8-10 oz Velveeta cheese, cubed

Instructions 1. Sauté carrots and celery in a large stock pot with oil. Cook until almost tender.

2. Add seasonings and sauté for another minute or so.

3. Add chicken breast and chicken broth.

4. Bring to a boil and add egg noodles.

5. Turn heat down and simmer until noodles are al dente.

6. Add cubed Velveeta and stir until thoroughly melted 7. Let soup continue to simmer until noodles are done. About 5 minutes or so.

You can always add more Velveeta to make the broth as cheesy as you like. Enjoy!!!
