GRAND MARSHAL: LOU RIVERA We are pleased to introduce Lou Rivera, chairman of Latinos Unidos, as grand marshal of the 2018 York Halloween Parade presented by York Traditions Bank! A native of Camden, N.J., Rivera grew up in Worcester, Mass., and returned to New Jersey to attend Rutgers University. He moved to York nearly three years ago and has quickly made his mark on his new community, leading such initiatives as Puerto Rico Se Levanta, the 21-day giving drive that raised more than $15,000 to support relief efforts in Puerto Rico, and playing a pivotal role in the creation of First Friday Latino in the city. Rivera serves as chairman of Latinos Unidos, a community dedicated to the engagement and empowerment of Latino residents in the greater York area. He and his fellow volunteers champion the organization’s efforts to promote social, civic, and economic integration of Latino families. Eventive Director Adam Nugent called Rivera an ideal grand marshal for a parade with this year’s theme, “York – A United Community of Many Cultures.” There are members of our York County community – too many to count – who have put decades of sweat into building a foundation for our town to be the most welcoming place for all of its residents and visitors,” Nugent said. “Lou is a person who recently made his home in York. He appreciates the groundwork that had been laid while recognizing that he and his neighbors can do more to continue building. Lou personifies a unified York County with all of its differences.” “I am deeply humbled and honored at being selected Grand Marshall of the 2018 Halloween Day Parade, particularly given its focus on diversity and inclusion,” Rivera said. “My path was paved by those in the Latino and gay community prior to my husband and I relocating to York in 2015 and by those who served this community, without recognition, much more than I have. What we, Latinos Unidos of York, have done is to bring greater awareness to the cause of engagement, empowerment, and diversity and inclusion, and I’m thrilled to be the honorary head of the York Halloween Parade the year those values will be center stage.”

Eventive: Events Fueled by Community family fun area sponsored by CGA Law Firm, where children enjoy balloons, face paint, and entertainment while they await the front end of the procession.
Eventive welcomes you to the 2018 York Halloween Parade presented by York Traditions Bank! Using the York Revolution model of entertainment, Eventive plans and produces community events in and around downtown York and throughout York County. “These events are national and local traditions,” said Eventive Director Adam Nugent. “They’ve earned their place in York, and in our downtown, and for that matter, events like this build community pride in every small town across America.”
From these two events, Eventive was born. The name became official in 2014 when the organization formed an important community partnership with York Traditions Bank. That partnership continues to ensure that these inclusive events stay strong through the years. By way of that partnership, another stellar event was created to help York “Laugh At The Cold” on Martin Luther King weekend in January. FestivICE features ice sculptures, an ice slide in Cherry Lane Park, Adirondack chairs and fire pits for s’more roasting on Beaver Street, and open storefronts and venues around downtown York, including winter-themed movies and hot beverages at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts.
The story of Eventive begins with York’s July 4 event. Area community events had steadily been losing funding and resources, and it looked like the fireworks weren’t going to fly anywhere near the City of York in 2013. That’s when the York Revolution stepped in and built a brand new energy around the event.
Eventive has come a long way since 2013. In addition to these large-scale community staples, it provides event planning and production services to non-profit organizations like Bell Socialization, which partners with Eventive to host its Big Bed Race, and the weekend-long Western celebration at Steam Into History earlier this month called “PA Cowboy Weekend.”
The York Halloween Parade was in a similar position. The event had seen its 63rd march down Market Street in 2012, and it was doubtful as to whether it would survive for its 64th. It survived and now features extras like the
