Christmas Gathering Planned In Park Foundation Schedules Seasonal Events

Third Annual Tree Lighting Slated By Ann Mead Ash

This will be the third year Kellye Martin has served as coordinator of the Lititz Christmas in the Park event, a community gathering and tree lighting festivity, and the event continues to grow, attracting at least 1,000 area residents in 2018. “This is a casual, family-friendly seasonal celebration,” said Martin. “It is so quintessentially small-town Americana, like something out of a Norman Rockwell scene,” she said. The 2019 celebration will be held at Lititz Springs Park, 24 N. Broad St., Lititz, on Friday, Dec. 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The approximately 30-minute event will include live music, carol singing, and the lighting of the town See Christmas In The Park pg 2

The Lititz Christmas in the Park event, a community tree lighting event, will be held in Lititz Springs Park on Dec. 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Area residents are invited to gather for caroling, to see the luminarias along the spring, and to enjoy a visit from Santa.

The Lititz Historical Foundation has planned events for the Lititz Community during the month of December. On Thursday, Dec. 12, the annual Community Christmas Carol Sing will be held, and on Friday, Dec. 13, the foundation will hold its Christmas Candlelight Tour. All area residents are invited to the Community Christmas Carol Sing, which will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz. The foundation is holding the event in conjuction with the Lititz Moravian Archives. Free song sheets will be available for those who want to sing along, and the Moravian Trombone Choir will accompany the singers on a number of holiday classics. Free Movie Night Will Focus On Adoption WEF Seeks Contributions By Ann Mead Ash

Brenda Long, a foster care and adoption supervisor with Bethanna in Lancaster, would like to see county residents broaden their concept of adoption. “Sometimes people think adoption is only for infants and young children, but we want people to know there are a lot of children age 10 and older looking for loving homes,” said Long. Long and other staff members of local adoption organizations who have gathered under the ACLC (Adoption

Coalition of Lancaster County) banner hope to change ideas about adoption by holding a special event during November, which is National Adoption Awareness Month. As they have for nearly a See Free Movie Night pg 8

Representatives of area adoption agencies that belong to the Adoption Coalition of Lancaster County are planning a free movie event at Penn Cinema on Nov. 26 to put the spotlight on fostering to adopt.

During the Extraordinary Give on Friday, Nov. 22, the Warwick Education Foundation (WEF) hopes to attract more than 30 new donors and maybe win a $500 bonus from the Lancaster County Community Foundation. The bonus could help to purchase items such as five more Dash robots to provide elementary school students with additional opportunities to learn the computer coding that programs the robots’ movements. A large portion of the Warwick Education Foundation’s annual budget goes to supporting STEM courses and upgrading computer technology. Last year, for example, WEF contributed a $60,000 investment for renovating and modernizing the computer labs in all four elementary schools. See WEF pg 2

John Bonfield Elementary School fifth- and sixth-grade students like Sarah (pictured) write code and programs to make Dash robots move and maneuver. The robots, available in all Warwick elementary schools, represent a host of STEM tools provided by the Warwick Education Foundation.
