MUSIC IN THE PARK
The Lititz Community Band will hold a concert on Friday, Aug. 2, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Lititz Springs Park bandshell. Music will feature classic hits and new favorites. Snacks and seating will be provided by Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church. In the event of heavy showers, the concert will be canceled and there will be no rain date.

Faith United Methodist Church, 1290 Fruitville Pike, Lititz, will hold Table Talk at the General Sutter Inn every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. The program will use a curriculum called “The Wired Word,” replacing the previous Lifetree Café curriculum. Participants will discuss various topics that have been in the news. On July 29, the group will discuss earthquakes - both those caused by geological fault lines and those caused by cultural fault lines. Cavod Academy’s second 2019 summer musical theater camp has yet to begin, but Cordell Huyard, who will direct the camp’s production of “Mary Poppins Jr.,” is already praising the cast. “The cast is already blending well,” said Cordell, noting that the group had met for a read-through. “This is one of the strongest dance groups we have ever had in a junior show. We have a lot of triple threats in this cast,” he said, referring to performers who are proficient at singing, dancing, and acting. The cast, which is made up of Lancaster County students ages 10 to 18, will begin rehearsals at The Junction Center, 1875 Junction Road, Manheim, on Monday, July 29. Camp will run through Friday, Aug. 9. Performances will be held at The Junction Center on Saturday, Aug. 10, and Sunday, Aug. 11,
at 2 and 7 p.m. each day. “Mary Poppins,” a musical, is based on the book by P.L. Travers, which is the pen name adopted by Helen Lyndon Goff, a British novelist whose childhood experiences provided inspiration for the story of Mary Poppins. Travers’ books were adapted by Walt Disney in 1964 into a musical film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. The stage musical ran on Broadway from 2006 to 2013. The play tells the story of the Banks family in London. The family is struggling with two difficult children, Jane and Michael, played by Cate Caplan and Josiah Henne, respectively. The children have managed to derail every nanny their parents have hired. While George Banks, played by Charlie Hill, insists on a strict nanny, the children are intrigued when the mysterious Mary Poppins, played by Celeste
Night Of Gospel Music To Benefit Young Campers Chicken Barbecue Planned
The Lititz recCenter, 301 W. Maple St., Lititz, will hold its fifth annual triathlon on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 8 a.m. The triathlon is open to individuals and teams. Proceeds will benefit Lititz recCenter youth programs. The race will begin at the rec center. Participants will swim 300 meters in the outdoor pool, bike 15.8 miles and run 3.1 miles. Gospel group Heaven 4 Shore will perform a concert at Woodcrest Retreat Center, Ephrata, on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. Funds raised by the event will help lower camping costs for children who take part in Woodcrest’s summer programs.

LCBC Ephrata To Host Global Leadership Summit By Ann Mead Ash
LCBC Ephrata campus pastor Dan Sahd and Next Steps coordinator Dan Burge are eagerly looking forward to the day that the campus opens its doors to host the Global Leadership Summit (GLS), a simulcast of a live broadcast that originates in Chicago. This year’s event is scheduled to be held at the church, 6 Hahnstown Road, Ephrata, on Thursday, Aug. 8, and Friday, Aug. 9. “You can expect nationally known speakers in the business and nonprofit worlds,” said Burge. “The unique thing is that it is not one person talking for two days; there are multiple speakers.” Indeed, up to 14 speakers from diverse See Leadership Summit pg 2
