Main St., at the end of March. Wodarz began serving as an interim head of school at Linden Hall in May of 2020, and she saw the students through the shutdown, employing precautions that contributed to zero COVID-19 outbreaks at the school. Wodarz’s background includes post-doctoral work at the Wharton School and both Harvard Business School and Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has consulted with private school clients locally and internationally, most recently near Philadelphia after relocating to the area 10 years ago. She has experience in finance, human

We don’t stop at calculus,” noted Wodarz. “We offer multivariate calculus.” Social and emotional aspects of growth are foundational, according to Wodarz. “We intentionally teach (girls) to cope under stress,
advocate for themselves, and deal with conflict, because kids will have conflict in life,” she said. Looking ahead, Wodarz keeps her finger on the pulse of the best ways to prepare students for the world beyond Lititz. “I look at international megatrends,” noted Wodarz, who has been gauging the impact of globalization on future career options. “My focus is future-ready,” said Wodarz. “We teach (students) to creatively approach situations with resilience and tenacity.” Founded in 1746, Linden Hall is the oldest all-girls’ boarding school in the country. Currently celebrating its 275th anniversary, the school boasts a student body made up of girls in grades six through 12 from 25 countries, 12 states, and nearly 30 Pennsylvania towns. Lititz-area senior citizens may take part in the Lancaster County Office of Aging’s Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Through the program, eligible seniors may receive vouchers for unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs from approved farmers markets. When paleontologist Chris Haefner of West Hempfield found a fossil in a church yard in York, he suspected he had uncovered something special. “It was an unusual creature,” said Haefner, who eventually learned the fossil represented an animal previously unknown to mankind. “It was not just a new species. The Lancaster County Career & Technology Foundation (LCCTF) recently announced this year’s scholarship and Workforce Grant recipients. The winning Lancaster County Career & Technology Center (LCCTC) students were selected due to their dedication to their studies, development of skills, and completion of their coursework. This year, across all LCCTC campuses, the LCCTF awarded $24,000 in scholarships and $11,500 in workforce grants. The LCCTF awards scholarships for LCCTC high school students who plan to pursue postsecondary education. Civil Air Patrol Cadet Capt. Jurnee M. Acosta, Lancaster, has retired from the position of cadet commander of Jesse Jones Composite Squadron 304. She has served in command since Sept. 8, 2020, exceeding the standard 12-month assignment recommended by regulations. der for cadets, a senior member position. Acosta has been appointed to the Pennsylvania Wing Cadet Advisory Council, where she will represent her squadron and Group 2. She will also continue as the squadron cadet recruiting officer and as an adviser to the deputy commander for cadets. Additionally, eight cadets from Squadron 304 received promotions and awards during the regular weekly meeting of the squadron on April 25. The presentations were made by Capt. Justin R. Walzl, Ephrata, the squadron’s leadership officer, during the closing formation at the squadron headquarters at Lancaster Airport. When talking about the Lancaster Lemonade Concert Series, Sharon Neal, board member with the fledgling 501(c)(3) nonprofit, focuses on one important aspect. “It’s the delight of the audience,” she noted. “People tap their feet. They come up and say it was wonderful, and it’s a blessing to us that they enjoy it,” she said. “Some come to every concert.” Concerts began on June 16, and they will continue on Thursdays at 7 p.m. through Aug. 11. The series raises funds for a vocal competition for local high school and college students. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the competition has not been held since 2020. Neal noted that the organization plans to bring the competition back in 2023. Upcoming concerts will
take place at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster. The next concert, on July 21, will feature Servant Stage presenting hits from the 1950 and 1960s with a live rock band and well-known oldies. On July 28, Reji Woods Productions will present “Songs From the Silver Screen” featuring Reji Woods as vocalist/narrator and vocalists Kathryn Cook, Kayla Klase, and Nolen Petrosky, with Mike Truitt on keyboard, David Flores on bass, and Stephen Brown on drums. On Aug. 4, Lancaster British Brass Band, conducted by Andrew Yozviak, will perform classic songs, marches, hymns, popular music, solos, and original compositions, and on Aug. 11, a presentation called “Broadway and More” will feature songs from “Carousel,” “Sound of Music,” and “Les Miserables.” That

Neal noted that the organization began as the fundraising arm of OperaLancaster, which started as Lancaster Opera Workshop and later was called Lancaster Opera Company. In 2019, Lancaster Lemonade Concerts began working to become its own nonprofit, called Lancaster
Lemonade Concert Series. In that capacity, the organization has sent checks to Lancaster Symphony and Lancaster Youth Orchestra. The 2022 summer series featured 10 concerts in all. Library Offers Summer Programs The Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) will take a virtual Summer Learning and Literacy Road Trip and the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz, will be one of the stops on the tour. Now through August, individuals can follow along and discover highlighted Pennsylvania libraries and the resources available to support early literacy and learning. Along the way, participants will get information about Pennsylvania state parks with resources and activities to do with their child. All activities align with the PA Early Learning Standards and can be done anywhere, like within the state park or at home. The Lititz Public Library is also the only library in Lancaster County asked to be a part of WQED’s Library Explorers program. The youngest patrons can explore libraries around the area from their home or in person. Participants can collect pins, complete fun activities, and get prizes. To participate, there are several steps to follow. First, participants must visit all 15 locations on the interactive character map. Each location has a video that includes a tour of a fun activity featuring PBS KIDS characters. Next, participants will need to watch each video and listen carefully for the password for each location. The password should be recorded on an official Library Explorers passport

or a sheet of paper. Finally, once all passwords have been recorded, participants should send a photo of their completed passport to education@wqed.org to receive a Library Explorers certificate, sticker sheet, button, and other prizes. Participants should include a mailing address or stop in the Lititz Library to collect their prizes. Participants can visit www.wqed.org and click on the Library Explorers logo to see which libraries are open to the public and collect a pin to put on their lanyard. Participants can visit the designated libraries and collect all 14 pins. Additionally, through Friday, July 22, the library will take part in its “SEAcret Books” activity in honor of the Summer Reading Program. There will be two “SEAcret Books” displays, one for adults
and one for youths. Patrons will be able to fish for a book by using a small fishing rod to hook a paper fish with a number on it. Patrons will then take their paper fish to the circulation desk to exchange it for a “SEAcret” bagged book. Patrons are encouraged to wait until they arrive home to reveal the title. With each book, patrons will find a “Rating the Book” card. Patrons are asked to complete the card by rating their book and including their name and phone number. Regardless of the rating, patrons can return the card to enter a drawing for a prize.
Faith United Methodist Church (UMC), 1290 Fruitville Pike, Lititz, will host a vacation Bible school, “G-Force: God’s Love in Action,” on Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29. The program will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and is open to children ages 4 to 10.

The squadron, which has had its headquarters in Lancaster County since World War II, meets each Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Venture Jets Hangar, located near the intersection of Lititz Pike and Millport Road. Visitors are welcome. Squadron 304 currently has 37 teenage cadet members. Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Haefner founded the county-wide club with his wife, Cathy, who now serves as treasurer, in 2013. At the May 2014 meeting, the group learned that the Cityview Church in West York had moved rock to a specific area of land when a new building was constructed. “The rock (in that area) is Kinzers shale,” explained Haefner. “It looked fossiliferous,” he noted, adding that the rock features rare echinoderms - marine invertebrates. Haefner gained permission to complete pocket-hole digs of about 18 inches deep, and he with help from Cathy, set about searching for fossils. He found the first to two Yorkicystis fossils in May 2017, and posted a

Haefner surrendered the fossil, and later a second specimen, to be studied by Zamora, along with two researchers from London and one from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. The fossil now resides at the Natural History Museum in London.
“The only way to get something noted and named is to give it to science,” said Haefner, who said he wishes that York had a museum that could be home to the fossils. “In York there have been profound discoveries,” noted Haefner, citing the genus of Trilobite discovered in that area in 1901. Church Slates Summer Events Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster, invites children and families to participate in two summer events. Weather permitting, both events will be held outdoors. A Faith and Fun Night will take place on Thursday, July 21, at 6 p.m. The vacation Bible school-style drop-off event for children age 4 to fifth grade will include a Bible lesson, crafts, and music. The evening will end with an ice cream social at 8 p.m. for the children, their families, and anyone else from the church or community who would like to attend.
