he tantalizing scent of cooked chicken mixed with spices drifted through the Lititz Senior Center, 201 E. Market St., Lititz, on June 15 at 11 a.m. “We are having (lunch) catered,” said Lucy Weaver, manager of the center. “We are having chicken cordon bleu with yummy side dishes, and we have pies for dessert.” The special meal was the result of combining Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations and holding an event between the two. “We used to do a special Mother’s Day lunch, and for Father’s Day we would do pizza and root beer,” recalled Weaver. “We decided we should do something nice for fathers (too).” Seating at the special luncheon was designed to mix things up a little. Each table was decorated with a theme representing a month of the year. Weaver pointed out a table with a centerpiece of hearts for February. Other tables had centerpieces of snowmen; shamrocks; or

is open from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. “Monday is mostly educational programming,” said Weaver, who noted that subjects could range from nutrition to insects to wild animals commonly found in many backyards. “One time they made apple cider right here,” said Weaver. Most Wednesdays are reserved for bingo games, which attendees love, but one is special. “The first Wednesday of the month is trivia
day care,” she said. “It’s somewhere they can have a good time and make friends and play games and exercise. It’s where you go to have a good time.” Weaver pointed out that seniors may visit for a single activity and then be on their way. She would be happy to see more younger seniors volunteer as well. Red, White, And Informative The Red Rose City of Lancaster and the White Rose City of York have much in common, according to Cory Van Brookhoven, president of the Lititz Historical Foundation, and Dominish Miller, founder of Preserving the History of Newberrytown. Together, Van Brookhoven and Miller will present “The Lancaster and York County Connection” at the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz, on Saturday, July 23, at 1:30 p.m. Similarities in architecture, industry, religion, and more will be discussed.

“Project Lifesaver is for people who have cognitive impairment that makes them prone to wander,” said Kelly Osborne, community services officer and Project Lifesaver coordinator with the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop J, Lancaster County. Now that the State Police officers serving in Lancaster are affiliated with Project Lifesaver, the service is available in all areas of the county. See Project Lifesaver pg 3
