T

wo hundred and fifty thousand dollars is a lot of money; it’s a quarter of a million bucks. For Warwick High School senior Emily Stauffer, it could be a life-altering sum of money. “Honestly, I still don’t know why it happened,” said Emily. “It’s kind of like winning the lottery. Maybe it was one thing I mentioned or one random thing I had done.” Recently, Emily, an outstanding student at Warwick, was awarded a $250,000 Dorsey scholarship to attend McDaniel College in Westminster Maryland. The scholarship will cover all or many of Stauffer’s undergraduate expenses, including tuition, books and room and board for four years. “It is more than generous,” said Emily. “As someone who wants to explore medical school, it’s a blessing. It’s something I never would have expected. It allows me to go through undergrad without the constant worry of paying back my debt.” Stauffer learned of the windfall in surprising fashion.
