First Responders Bring Joy To Lititz

Manheim BIC Welcomes Taylor As Lead Pastor

By Ann Mead Ash

On April 1, the Lititz Borough Police Department took to its Facebook page with a special announcement. “With everyone stuck inside their homes right now, it’s kind of hard to even think about the next parade in Lititz, or is it?” the post asked. “We’re bringing the Parade to YOU!” the announcement crowed. On April 2, in response to COVID-19 restrictions, a new announcement included a few changes. The event’s name was changed to the “By appointment only Lititz first responders waving from a proper social distance in an outside environment vehicle procession.” Instead of the original route around the town, the police department asked Lititz Borough residents to send addresses in private messages to the police by 2 p.m. on April 3 so the vehicle procession could plan to drive by specific houses and wave that evening. The procession, which included about a dozen vehicles from the police department, Lititz Fire Company

health and safety of runners and others. “Our mission must go on,” said Stacie Blake, chief executive officer of the YWCA Lancaster. “We are excited to provide a positive opportunity for our community to persevere and unite together virtually to take a stand against racism.” As a virtual race, the event technically began on March 25 at midnight and will run through Saturday, April 25, at 11:59 p.m. Those wishing to take part in the event are asked to run or walk 3.1 miles on a treadmill, trail, track, or road anytime before 11:59 p.m. on April 25. Those who complete the event will earn a commemorative T-shirt and reusable See Race Against Racism pg 3

In response to COVID-19 restrictions, runners who choose to participate in the Race Against Racism sponsored by the YWCA Lancaster may do so virtually. Participants may complete the 5K distance at any time until 11:59 p.m. on April 25.

Schools around the county have adjusted their educational methods as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and many students, such as those from Mount Calvary Christian School, are doing their learning from home.

First responders from the Lititz Borough Police Department, Lititz Fire Company No. 1, and Warwick Community Ambulance Association drove by specific addresses in Lititz on April 3, based on requests they received by private message on Facebook. About a dozen vehicles took part in the effort to spread joy in Lititz in response to the COVID-19 restrictions.

New Takes On Education You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who hasn’t felt the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and one of the areas experiencing a massive adjustment is the education system. Public school, private school, student, teacher, parent - no one is exempt from the far-reaching repercussions after a statewide mandate closed schools in mid-March. School administrative teams across Lancaster County have had to adjust quickly, all while keeping the safety of students and the community at the forefront of their decisions. know the approximate time they would drive by a particular address. Armed with the list of houses, the vehicles ran lights and sirens, tooted horns, and watched for signs they had encouraged residents to

As churches and other institutions and organizations have adapted to these unprecedented times, the congregation of Manheim Brethren in Christ (BIC) Church, 54 N. Penryn Road, Manheim, had an unconventional introduction to new lead pastor Bryce Taylor. Bryce officially began as lead pastor at the church on March 12. With the state and nation in quarantine due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, this meant that Bryce’s installment service scheduled for March 15 was postponed indefinitely, and he delivered his first message to the church via livestream.
