The Lititz Stroller Gang, a collection of moms, is holding a bake sale.

“We have so many bakers in our group,” said Ashley Mayer, the Lititz Stroller Gang’s founder. “Everything is ‘momma makes.’ It falls in line with where our talents are. It’s very much these moms doing what they love. We’re baking real, authentic stuff. It’s from their kitchens.”

“It’s so amazing when we get to that day, just to see all the love moms put into things,” said Mayer.

“We always want to bless others.”

“It’s handmade things made with love. A lot of people know about us, but you get a glimpse of what our group is about. We do really like the fellowship, just hanging out and having a good time.”

The Lititz Stroller Gang is staging this year’s edition of its annual fundraising bake sale on Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m.

Some of the 500 featured items that will be available at the bake sale include breakfast goods, sourdough bread loaves, seasoned pretzels, scones, banana

Hope Inspire Love takes both a realistic and an optimistic approach to its work. The human trafficking-fighting local nonprofit also takes its fun seriously.

Hope Inspire Love’s upcoming event is a mixture of style and substance, of business and play and of joy and caution.

“When people dress in formal attire, they feel elegant,” said

Amy Thurston, Hope Inspire Love’s CEO and co-founder.

“They’re meeting people who have similar beliefs. They’re excited. They feel beautiful. But they’re seeing that their support has purpose; it’s supporting the work we do. It’s a night of beauty while also bringing hope. They’ll be hearing hard stories, but the beauty outweighs them.”

Ephrata Cloister to offer tours

The Historic Ephrata Cloister, 632 W. Main St., Ephrata, will offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at the upper floors of the 1743 Sisters’ House on Saturday, April 12. The tours, which are suitable for people age 12 and older, will provide an opportunity to explore unrestored areas of the site not typically open to the public. The tours will showcase much of the building’s original

18th-century design and materials. The tours will be offered at 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m., noon, and 1:15 p.m. Each will last approximately one hour, and the tours will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Group sizes are limited to 18 participants per tour. Tickets may be purchased at the door on the day of the event. There is a discount for Ephrata Cloister

Associates members.

Attendees should note that accessing the upper floors requires navigating narrow and steep staircases. All participants must sign a waiver before the tour.

In addition to the upper floor tours, the Cloister will hold its regularly scheduled guided tours of the Sisters’ House and Meetinghouse at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., and

A keynote speaker who has been directly affected by human trafficking will deliver an address to the gathering, and a full-course dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Liz Ackerman, executive director of the Northern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce, will serve as the master of ceremonies for the event, which will also feature music and an interactive live art experience.

The deadline for purchasing tickets at www.hopeinspirelove. org is Thursday, April 10.

“It’s an evening for people to celebrate the work that Hope Inspire Love does,” said Thurston. “People get a chance to learn about our existing programs. The gala is an opportunity to come out, become more aware and understand how they can

“We want to be able to expand our restorative services,” said Thurston. “We want to be able to meet people’s needs. We don’t want to have to say to people, ‘We can’t serve you.’ We want to be able to say yes. We want to make sure it’s a long-term, not a short-term, fix.”

As many as 250 church members, community members, business leaders, government officials and individuals who have been directly and indirectly affected by human trafficking are expected to attend.

“I love people, and I love relationships,” said Thurston. “I love seeing people connecting around their tables. What gets me choked up is how many people come out. I love seeing people who support the why.”

Hope Inspire Love also conducts a Freedom Walk to help raise funds and awareness about human trafficking, in addition to other smaller fundraising events throughout the year. Hope Inspire Love’s mission is

also funded through private and business donations, church charity and grants.

“To me, it’s about fostering healthy relationships and growing,” said Thurston. “It’s important for businesses to know who we are. We’re trying to help people navigate healthy relationships. We’re trying to meet people where they are and walk with them on their journeys.”

Located at 1380 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, Hope Inspire Love was founded in 2017 when Thurston’s husband, Steve, witnessed an incident of human trafficking. Today, Hope Inspire

Love is operated by a staff of six employees and supported by over 100 volunteers.

“We’ve been able to expand our services beyond Lancaster County,” said Thurston. “We’ve been able to expand our team. We’ve been able to do more prevention education. We’ve been able to match survivors with mentors. That’s why we get to celebrate.”

“We love to be able to tell the survivors that the community did this,” added Thurston. “This isn’t about Hope Inspire Love; it’s about all of us working together. It takes all of us. We all have a part to play.”

Members of the Hope Inspire Love team address the attendees at last year’s gala.

Parkinson’s Meet and Mingle slated

The Lititz recCenter, 301 W. Maple St., Lititz, will host a Parkinson’s Meet and Mingle on Saturday, April 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. Community members are invited to attend for networking and information.

A PWR! Moves fitness exercise demonstration will be offered by certified coach David Lauver. Certified Rock Steady coach Erica Johnson will discuss the benefits

of the Rock Steady program, and a representative of Drayer Physical Therapy will share information about rehabilitation aimed at improving strength, dexterity, balance, voice, and swallowing. Attendees may learn about Parkinson’s prevention and diet strategies from neurologist Dr. Shayne Bushong. Rachel Brubaker from Indigo Healing Arts Studio

will share techniques to combat bodily stiffness, hammer toe, fibromyalgia, and more. Licensed esthetician Camille Conaway will provide information about skin care services. Refreshments will be available.

The event is free of charge. For more information, call 717-6265096, ext. 239, or email Simon Ababou@lititzrec.com.

chicken barbecue lunch will be served to the morning groups; the afternoon groups will receive a light café lunch and a chicken barbecue meal for dinner. The deadline to register is Friday, May 23. Go to https://epcgolfouting. com for more information and to register.

Individuals or businesses that wish to sponsor the event or provide prizes can visit the aforementioned website or email EPC marketing and communications director Dan Silva at marketing@ engleonline.com.

“We want to be involved with the communities we serve,” said Jocelyn Engle, who is EPC’s publisher. “We know that some people just need an extra boost in times of need, and this was a perfect fit for us.”

Rachel Shelley, the director of marketing for Good Samaritan Services, agrees. “We love our partnership with EPC,” said Shelley. “Obviously, the funding that comes from the golf outing is helpful in supporting our mission (and) funding the work that we do in the community. Also, EPC is obviously so well-connected, and this is a great awareness-building event for us, too.”

Good Sam has locations across Lancaster and Chester counties and every day serves about 300 people who are in crisis. “Our mission is to respond with compassion to individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness or are

at risk of homelessness,” Shelley said.

Anyone who needs assistance from Good Samaritan Services can go to https://goodsamservices.org.

A Good Sam representative will conduct a screening via a phone call to determine if the organization can help.

EPC is carrying on a family tradition started by company founder Alvin Engle, who was Jocelyn’s grandfather. Alvin was involved with numerous philanthropic endeavors and set the tone for the company going forward, Jocelyn said.

Since its inception, the golf outing has generated nearly $300,000 for neighbors in need. “We want to make the experience memorable for golfers and also make sure community members are aware of what Good Sam does,” Jocelyn said. “We want to (send the message) that everyone is included. We want to make sure (the golf outing is) affordable for everybody to take part. … I think what’s so neat about our event is we’ve had so many returning sponsors and golfers because it is something people look forward to every year.”

Many of Good Sam’s 30 staff members will volunteer at the golf event. “Our staff loves coming to the golf outing,” Shelley said. “It’s such a cool day for our staff. A lot of them are working directly with the people we serve every day pro -

viding case management, and it’s a heavy job. It’s important, important work. It’s really important for our staff to come on the day of the golf outing and see the community support for the work that they’re doing.”

Good Samaritan Services executive director Nate Hoffer will attend the outing. “His true passion for what he and his team members do has been fun for us to watch as an organization, because we know everyone is being taken care of by Good Sam,” said Jocelyn.

Only 3% of Good Samaritan Services’ budget is funded by the government. “People have been generous and kind in supporting and believing in the work we do,” said Shelley.

Good Sam will be expanding its impact with two homes in Phoenixville. It will be the first time Good Sam will offer housing for women in Phoenixville. The homes will continue to provide safe housing for women facing homelessness, with the added resources of Good Sam.

Shelley stated Good Sam takes an individualized approach to caring for clients. “Everyone in crisis has their own individual story,” she said. “They are on a unique path on how they are going to reach stability.”

Clients meet one-on-one with a resource coordinator, who provides case management with “bite-size goals” for them to work on, Shelley

said. She added Good Sam team members “take this large problem of crisis and break it into sizable goals while walking alongside them in that journey and equipping them with tools.”

There are no quick fixes. The goal is to remove any barriers that might be in the way of clients achieving long-term housing stability.

Courtney and her 3-year-old daughter, Cherish, were the first family to move into Good Samaritan Services’ Lancaster city residence for women and children, which opened last year.

“Good Sam Services has gone out of their way to make sure I have everything I need and more,” Courtney said. “The opportunities I’ve received are truly a blessing. They helped keep me going when I could have quit, and I’m so grateful for their support. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I can breathe.”

Church sets breakfast and egg hunt

The Gala for Education focuses on supporting OMPH School students and families through the Tuition Assistance Program. Since its beginning in 2023, the gala has raised more than $106,000 for students desiring an OMPH School education.

This year’s gala will include dinner, entertainment, silent and live auctions, a wish board, and interactive games. In addition, the paddle raise will offer an opportunity for guests to raise their hands and say “yes” to Catholic education for the next generation of OMPH students.

Tickets are available for purchase by visiting www.omphschool.com or calling Teresa Hartman, director of advancement at 717-738-2414.

OMPH is a Catholic preschool,

elementary school, and middle school. It welcomes children of all faiths who seek an education focused on reverence, respect, and responsibility. OMPH School is accredited through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary Schools. For more information, call 717-738-2414 or visit the aforementioned website.

Brunnerville United Methodist Church, 517 Pine Hill Road, Lititz (Brunnerville), will hold a community breakfast and Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 12. Breakfast will be served from 9 to 10:30 a.m. There will be a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Following breakfast, an Easter egg hunt will be held at 11 a.m. The egg hunt is limited to kids from infants to age 12. These events are free, and no preregistration is required. A freewill offering will be received for the meal.

Discussion group to meet

The Exploring, Growing Together Discussion Forum will meet on Thursdays, April 10 and 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The discussions will be held in the conference room at the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz. Heidi Yorty will lead discussion of “Women Talking” by Miriam Toews. The book, which is based on real events, was the inspiration

for the Oscar-winning film of the same name.

Attendees may bring a lunch to eat during the discussion. Each person must obtain the materials for the course unless specified in the group’s schedule, which is subject to change. For more information, contact Linda at 717-626-0745 or raven303@ptd.net.

A silent auction will be part of the festivities.

bread, pastries, crisped rice treats, chocolate-covered pretzels, mini shoofly pies, cupcakes, cookies and muffins, as well as gluten-free and vegan offerings. Also being offered that day will be coffee, water and kids’ drinks.

In addition, the Lititz Stroller Gang will operate a build-your-own bouquet bar, equipped with various flowers and greens.

Nearly 40 moms associated with the Lititz Stroller Gang have committed to donating items for the event.

“We always have music playing,” said Mayer. “We make bouquets. It’s very pretty. It’s like a whole vibe. It’ll be Eastery. We’re going to play up the spring theme.”

The Lititz Stroller Gang is aiming to make $2,000 through the bake sale. Some of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, while the remainder will be used to offset the costs of two upcoming Lititz Stroller Gang events - a tea party/dinner/

The Lititz Stroller Gang was originally founded in 2021 as a social group for moms looking for exercise and activities for their children. It took the group less than a year to conduct its first fundraising bake sale.

“At that point, it was just a fellowship group,” said Mayer, a resident of Lititz. “It’s morphed into something more than a moms’ group. We are a Christian-based group. I wanted to share God’s Word with people and make some friends. The bake sale was our first fundraiser, and then we decided we needed to become more official. We decided we wanted to do bigger things. We always want to bless others.”

The Lititz Stroller Gang meets every Thursday at 9 a.m. at Lititz Springs Park during warm-weather months
