It is an honor and privilege to serve as President of the Southern York County Business Association and represent such a respected organization. We are a local nonprofit dedicated to helping businesses thrive, regardless of size or or location in the York community. I am grateful for our board members who work tirelessly to provide a variety of networking, educational, and social opportunities during the course of a year.

As an organization, we understand the importance of giving back to the community in which we live and work. Every year we coordinate a fundraising event which benefits several nonprofit members. Through the efforts of individual participants, we have been able to donate over $20,000 the past 4 years.

Additionally, we recognize that our students are the future leaders of our businesses. For this locations can be found at the back of the reason we award two $500 scholarships to York directory.

Shadowfax

hadowfax, 386 Pattison St., York, is a private, nonprofit human service agency founded in 1985. Its mission is “to set the standard for quality in the human service field through consistent demonstration of dependability, integrity, and commitment to our stakeholders.�

The organization offers extensive and comprehensive programs and provides services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including residential services, employment supports, community supports, prevocational services, and a day program. In 1986, the company supported 12 individuals in four homes. The residential services department now supports nearly 100 individuals in 27 homes throughout York County. More than 350 people are supported through a variety of Shadowfax services.

Residential Services Shadowfax residential individuals are active and enjoy a variety of outings and experiences.

Dot enjoys playing bingo at a local church, where she spends the evening with friends. Trisha had the opportunity to see country star Luke Bryan in concert, and although the show was during a thunderstorm, she had a good time. She also enjoyed several other shows.

Amy and Teresa are fans of live shows, and the duo has enjoyed performances at local dinner theaters, the Pullo Center, and the Appell Center.

A few gentlemen at one of Shadowfax’s homes are in the process of building a model train display. They are proud of their work and have enjoyed creating the display together.

In addition, residents have enjoyed Zumba classes, swimming lessons, and many opportunities to volunteer for community organizations.

Community Supports Cindi, Michael, and Jill decided to explore volunteer opportunities, and they discovered several options at local farms, including Leg Up Farm and Horn Farm Center. They learned to

identify plants and vegetables, and they helped out by pulling weeds and harvesting crops in the summer.

After harvest, the volunteers continued their efforts by helping out at the York Food Bank twice a week, where they assembled boxes and stocked the shelves.

All three look forward to heading back out to the farms in the spring. Additionally, Michael was recently hired

by Fresh Food Farms, where he plants seedlings in the new heated greenhouse.

Another Shadowfax individual, Mark, spends some volunteer hours stocking shelves at LifePath Ministries and helping customers find products. Mark also enjoys visiting local home improvement stores, where he has developed friendships with some of the employees. His growing friendship with one manager led to a job offer, and Mark is excited to enter a new chapter in his life.

Employment Supports Tommy was offered a job at a small catering b usiness after taking part in a successful interview. Tommy works part-time, washing dishes and making sure the kitchen area is clean. He has become friends with the business owner, and the two enjoy morning coffee together each day. Additionally, Cindi applied for a cooking position at the catering business and learned that she received the job.
