A sense of renewal flows through the river towns of Columbia, Marietta, and Wrightsville. Development of the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail, revitalization of the three towns, and a renewed focus on promoting the local region have all contributed to this optimistic spirit. Possibility and potential are among the attitudes that help convince new businesses to locate in our area and become part of this renaissance. There is a positive energy within the area, and the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce (SVCC) is proud to be a part of it. Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce serves area businesses located in Columbia, Marietta, Wrightsville, and beyond. Investment in SVCC membership is an investment in both local business and the local communities. SVCC provides a wide range of services to our members including assistance in promoting businesses, opportunities for networking, and coordination of grand openings and ribbon cuttings for new businesses. Member events such as mixers, breakfast meetings, and seminars serve to educate members while connecting members to one another. SVCC continually adds to its list of member benefits that will assist our member businesses in their growth and development. Community members are welcome to show their support of this mission by becoming Patron Members of SVCC. SVCC’s Visitor Center greets over 10,000 guests to the region annually. The center welcomes visitors from nearly every state and from an average of 14 countries per year. Built by Lancaster County Vo-Tech students over 28 years ago and financed through the Chamber of Commerce, the Visitors Center has been maintained solely through local efforts including membership dues and fundraising initiatives. In addition, SVCC began assisting Columbia Borough in May of 2015 by coordinating a schedule of volunteers to man the information desk in Columbia Crossing. Interested volunteers are always welcome to join us. SVCC staff coordinates the events which serve the dual purposes of raising funds for the Visitors Center and raising the communities’ visibility. Among these events are the well-known Bridge Bust, the Antique, Arts & Craft Show, two 5K runs – the River Run and the MAG Fall Flash – and the popular Chiques Challenge. Promotion of monthly Fourth Friday arts programming as well as a collaborative effort to produce the Thunder on the River Car Show also serve to increase foot traffic in the local area. Join us in 2017 when the Garden Tour and Old-Fashioned Christmas (our holiday home tour) return. You won’t want to miss the River Town Hops, a popular craft brew festival, in August of 2017. Be extraordinary by participating in Be Extraordinary on the River Towns, our effort to promote local giving during The Extraordinary Give Event, on November 17, 2017. This fundraising event supports community non-profit organizations. The community gathers to have a bit of fun while learning about each participating organization and of course, giving generously to the non-profit(s) of their choosing. The Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce has undergone a smooth reorganization and transition of staffing. In August of 2016, the Executive Director, Kathleen Hohenadel, advised the SVCC Board of Directors of her desire to reduce her work hours and assume a part-time role at the Chamber. Heather Weaver was appointed as a part-time Event Coordinator. An additional part-time Event Coordinator will join the staff by late summer. A summer intern and summer support personnel round out the staff. All staff members work to promote the area and its businesses. As always, the goal is to enthusiastically support the Chamber’s mission. Partnerships among communities, their businesses, and their non-profit organizations serve to make all of us stronger and more successful. Chamber membership allows us to join together to accomplish more for our region. SVCC is proud to play a key role in this collaboration.

SVCC Staff,
SVCC strives to improve the quality of life and to promote an atmosphere of business cooperation in Columbia, Marietta, and Wrightsville. This mission is easily seen in the SVCC tag line “River Towns Working Together.” SVCC service reaches beyond these river communities on both sides of the Susquehanna River, extending into Lancaster and York Counties in southcentral Pennsylvania. The Chamber and Visitors Center functions under a Board of Directors and is operated by one full-time staff member, three support staff members, and one summer intern with the assistance of over 30 Visitor Center volunteers. Over 100 additional volunteers from the area give of their time at SVCC community fundraising events.

Chartered in 1928 as the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce (SVCC) began representing the tri-borough region of Columbia, Marietta and Wrightsville in the late 1980s. SVCC most visibly represents the area through its operation of the Visitors Center located along Route 30 and its coordination of volunteers to seasonally man the information desk in Columbia Crossing, the trail-head building located in Columbia River Park.

MISSION:
The Visitors Center is operated by the Chamber to provide information to the community, travelers, and tourists to the area. Members of the Chamber may place brochures, flyers, and other promotional items in the Visitors Center. Additional paid advertising is also available to members who wish to be featured in our Lighted Display Board.
AFFILIATION
The Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center is not organizationally a part of the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the York County Chamber of Commerce, the Pennsylvania Dutch Convention & Visitors Bureau, or the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau. However, we do enjoy reciprocal honorary memberships with these organizations.
MEMBERSHIP
Almost two-thirds of our members come from the tri-borough area of Columbia, Marietta, and Wrightsville. Other areas of Lancaster and York Counties as well as regions beyond are represented in our membership. Most members join to create connections with other business people through the networking opportunities presented by SVCC; others have joined for member benefits such as insurance through Pennsylvania Chamber Insurance (PCI).
FUNDING
The Chamber is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization, fully funded by members of the community through contributions, membership dues, and community events. Currently, there is no funding from grants or government organization, nor are we affiliated with any other sponsoring chambers.
HISTORY
Ea rly 20th Century until 1920 - Columbia Merchants and Manufacturers Association (CMMA) is active in the community. Oc tober 11, 1920 - CMMA changes name to Columbia Chamber of Commerce. Jul y 7, 1928 - Charter is created for Columbia Chamber of Commerce. 19 84 - First full-time paid staff members (Secretary and Executive Director) are introduced to the chamber.
The Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce is a memberdriven organization dedicated to preserving and strengthening the Susquehanna Valley’s business and tourism environment by providing programs and services which promote civic, cultural, business and economic growth and development.

A quarterly newsletter is available via email, regular mail, or website posting. All members are welcome to submit items of interest for inclusion in this member publication.
The Chamber publishes an annual Information Guide that is distributed through our member businesses, our Visitors Center, as well as in relocation and information packets. This Information Guide is also delivered to all residences in Columbia, Marietta, and Wrightsville through the services of Engle Printing and Publishing. All SVCC members are included in the Guide and have the opportunity to place an advertisement. SVCC also works with Integra Publishing to produce Susquehanna River Towns, a guide geared to visitors to the region. This publication includes the history of the area as well as information on activities and events hosted by community organizations. This calendar of events appeals to residents and guests alike. All SVCC members have the opportunity to place an advertisement.

The Lighted Display Board is a lighted advertising unit that displays an 11 x 14 photo of your business. The size and location of the Lighted Display Board make it a prominent feature of the Visitors Center and give its participating membership a visual presence with real impact. Your rack cards are displayed at your photo, increasing your brochure presence 300%. Our convenient location along Route 30 is often the first stop for visitors to the area; the map at the center of the Lighted Display Board is used by staff and volunteers when giving directions to visitors, again drawing attention to the businesses promoted through this membership category. Lighted Display Board members have an additional navigation button on the membership page of the Chamber website. Look for the section that replicates the Lighted Display Board online. It’s beer sampling with a variety of craft brewers located along Locust Street in downtown Columbia. Sample the fare presented by these vendors along with a selection of food trucks. Live music coordinated by Create Columbia will add to your enjoyment of this festival which runs from 4 to 8 pm. A maximum of 2000 tickets will be sold for this event. Thunder on the River Car Show Located on Locust Street in downtown Columbia, this event will run from 10am-2pm. Take a walk down memory lane with vintage cars, great music, good friends, and a variety of food. A collaborative effort of the Columbia Lions Club and SVCC, this event features show awards, with numerous trophies to be awarded including Best of Show. Oldies music will serve as a backdrop for a fun-filled day. Admission for spectators is free. (NOTE: This event benefits selected local charities as well as the coordinating organizations. This is not solely an SVCC Event.)

Over 300 vendors will offer their wares in the categories of antiques, art, crafts, food and specialty items in this unique and popular event. The venue is the Rt. 462 Veterans Memorial Bridge between Columbia and Wrightsville (Lancaster & York County.) The 1.25 mile bridge is closed to traffic for this event. Hours are 8 am – 4 pm. Free parking and free shuttle service is available from both sides of the bridge. Admission is $2 for adults; $1 for children 6 to 12; and children under 6 enter free of charge. Please, NO pets.

Participate in this duathlon event which combines running and kayaking. Registration will begin in Columbia’s River Park. Participants will be transported to Vinegar Ferry Road and run along the river via the Northwest Trail and on through Marietta.
