Emily Conklin Lasko inspired what became the Solanco Toy Drive when they were in elementary school. The girls traditionally held a party at a local skating rink to celebrate their Nov. 9 birthday with all of their classmates. One year, rather than welcoming presents, the girls asked their peers to bring new, unwrapped toys to give as Christmas gifts to

other children. The donations were distributed with the help of the Community Action Program in Quarryville, and the Solanco Toy Drive grew from there. Years ago, friends of the Conklin family joined in with their holiday spirit and began hosting an annual dance to raise money to purchase gifts for the drive. Due to COVID-19,

this year’s dance has been canceled. The Solanco Toy Drive, however, will take place on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at Nickel Mine Floor Covering, 359 Buck Road, Quarryville. Vouchers for the event may be requested by applying at www.solanco toydrive.com. Jodi Conklin, the
