Five To Vie For New Fair Queen Crown By Dayna M. Reidenouer

Five young women will compete in the inaugural Solanco Fair Queen Pageant on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. in the East Drumore Township municipal building, 925 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville. The winner will represent the Solanco Fair at the 2019 Pennsylvania State Fair Queen Pageant, which will be held in Hershey in January. “The committee is so excited to have this group of contestants represent the Solanco Fair at the Solanco Fair Queen Pageant,” commented organizer Carly Foose. “They each are well-spoken and carry themselves with such poise. While every young lady has a unique background, their passion for the Solanco Fair and their community shines brightly.”

The contestants will be evaluated on their speeches, essays, personal interviews, quality of poise, answers to on-stage questions, and overall interaction with the judges. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship, and the runner-up will receive a $250 scholarship. The scholarships are funded by the Solanco Fair board and will be disbursed once the winners complete their obligations. “Although only two young ladies will be walking away with a title, it takes a lot of courage - especially in the first year of a program - to compete, and I admire each girl for taking the opportunity to participate,” Foose remarked. The candidates for 2018 Solanco Fair Queen are Lydia Fetterman, Alexis Findley, Kelsey Peifer, Amber Pownall, and Alicia Rohrer. See Fair Queen Pageant pg 3
