WellSpan Health is looking for a bunch of good folks - conscientious people, proactive people, big-picture people. The health care system is encouraging individuals to participate in a transformative study called “The Gene Health Project.” It’s a project that can change the direction of participants’ health, as well as help others. “The opportunity to do prevention is tremendous,” said Dr. David Kann, medical director of genetics and precision medicine for WellSpan Health. “We can prevent certain diseases. Most people who participate really want to advance research, more than help themselves. Obviously, preventing a heart attack is better than treating one.” The Gene Health Project is an immense undertaking that involves multiple health care systems from all over the nation. The study collects samples of individuals’ genetics, stores the data and examines it. From those examinations, the study can predict an individual’s likelihood for certain illnesses and diseases. In six to eight weeks, participants are notified of the results of their studied samples. But the project needs samples to study. Interested individuals over the age of 18 can request blood draws or saliva kits through their Wellspan Health internet portals or by visiting the health care system’s website at www.wellspan.org. There are no costs involved

Accreditation Reaffirmed for LBC Lancaster Bible College (LBC) has announced t h a t i t s a c c re d i t a t i o n was officially reaffirmed by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). This achievement highlights t h e c o l l e g e ’s o n g o i n g commitment to academic excellence, student success, and institutional integrity. MSCHE is an institutional accreditor recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The commission affirmed that LBC met all the commission’s standards for educational quality, assessment, and continuous improvement. Accreditation by MSCHE is intended to assure stu-

dents that their degree meets high academic and operational standards. It also allows the institution to participate in federal financial aid programs. Accreditation reaffirmation is a standard part of the accreditation c ycle for all MSCHE-accredited institutions. Rather than being prompted by a specific concern or issue, reaffirmation is the re g ul ar pro cess through which colleges and universities conduct a comprehensive institutional self-study, host a peer review team, and demonstrate continued compliance with MSCHE’s standards of educational quality and institutional effectiveness.

LBC conducted a comp r e h e n s i v e s e l f- s t u d y from 2024 to early 2026. T he self- study process i nv i te d t h e co l l e g e to ex amine itself against external criteria of excellence and demonstrate its compliance with MSCHE’s “Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation (Fourteenth Edition)” and applicable federal regulatory requirements. LBC ’s 115-page Self- Study Repor t was submitted in January, followed by an on-site evaluation visit by commission representatives in March. MSCHE reaffirmed LBC ’s accreditation on June 25. In its report, the MSCHE team commended LBC for several achieve-

ments, including expanding academic programs across levels; maintaining strong mission alignment of academic programs, student support services, and admissions practices; aligning strategic planning and resource allocation with institutional priorities; and displaying a strong commitment to continuous i m p ro ve m e n t t h ro u g h openness to feedback , readiness to learn, and willingness to recognize opportunities for growth. L B C ’s r e a f f i r m a t i o n of accreditation comes during a time of growth and accomplishment, including three years of record fall total enrollment in 2023, 2024, and 2025; the launch of several

new academic programs, both on campus and online; the groundbreaking of a new Global Vision Center; and the completion of the 2023 to 2026 strategic plan. LBC’s next evaluation visit is scheduled for the 2033-34 academic year. LBC was first granted MSCHE accreditation in 1982. MSCHE is a global institutional accreditor made up of volunteer, peer-based, nonprofit members who evaluate the educational quality of more than 500 institutions of higher education. This year is the 70th anniversary of Hawk Mountain, located in Kempton. They learned aircraft search techniques used in downed aircraft missions, including clue detection, evidence search, and terrain-based search patterns. This year, registration will be limited to 132 golfers. Registration must be completed by Tuesday, Sept. 15; contact Diem at 717587-1315 or paula@beiler insurance.com. The lunch varies by year and is not yet finalized, but in the past it has ranged from pork barbecue to mac and cheese to meatball sandwiches. Another highlight of the event is its giveaway drawing baskets. Diem said there are typically around 30 baskets, which include golf equipment, balls, clubs and gift cards that have been donated by the local community and businesses.

Like any research, the bigger the sample size, the more accurate the findings. “ The more you spread it, the more you’re able to help people,” said Dr. Kann. “I would encourage people to sign up for the Gene Health Project and see what you can learn about yourself. It’s just a win, win, win. “Up until now, health care systems have been mostly reactive,” concluded Dr. Kann. “Now we’re putting a lot of effort into who’s going to get sick and how they’re going to get sick.”

costumes, and set pieces intended to bring to life the village of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. The production is directed by Johnathan Bauer. “Anne of Green Gables” focuses on Anne Shirley, an imaginative, talkative orphan girl with a vivid imagination and an irrepressible spirit. She is adopted by the aging Cuthberts, who had hoped to adopt a young boy to help on their farm, Green Gables. Although Anne’s fiery personality and endless curiosity often lead her into trouble, she gradually wins over the hearts of Marilla, Matthew, and the entire community of Avonlea. All performances are available on a pay-what-you-will basis. To reserve tickets, visit www.servantstage.org or call 717-455-0255. Advance reservations are recommended, as many performances are expected to sell out.
