Drawing On Success For Fair Book Cover By Marcella Peyre-Ferry

Winston Churchill, twice prime minister of the United Kingdom the first time during World War II - had a deep affection for horses. He played polo, owned racehorses, and established a breeding program. “There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man,” Churchill is credited as saying. That belief is a significant part of the philosophy behind equine-assisted therapy. Working with horses, whether grooming or riding, can have a positive impact on individuals’ mental and physical health, which is why disabled military veteran Sara

The Solanco Fair premium book was created before the beloved fair was canceled. Gracing the cover is artwork created by Ella Trimble, daughter of Peter and Laura Trimble. Now an eighth-grade student at Smith Middle School, Ella was a member of the afterschool art club this spring, when the annual cover art contest took place. When schools closed due to the coronavirus, students received an email from their art teacher asking them to submit drawings for the cover contest. Ella began work on the project the same day. Her drawing shows a tractor on a path with a pig and a cow on either side, along with the words “71st Annual Solanco Fair 2020.” Ella was surprised when she was told she was the winner. “I never entered anything like this before,” she said. “She has been very creative and See Fair Book Cover pg 5

A Way To Honor Your Grandparents

In a year when organizations are scaling back events, the mission committee of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church (MOPC), 1199 Valley Road (Route 372), Quarryville, has expanded its annual yard sale. The event was postponed from its original date in April. “We’re having it on two days instead of one to spread it out a little bit,” explained mission committee member and yard sale coordinator Dan Henry, expressing the hope that the extended time will allow shoppers to maintain social distancing within the building. The yard sale will be held on Friday, Aug. 28, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. An array of household items, toys, tools, clothes, furniture, and more is slated to be available for purchase from the mission committee inside the church, and additional vendors will sell items outside the building. “Come and join the fun at our yard sale. Who knows? You just might find that treasure you have been looking for,” said mission committee chair Boni Henry, who is married to Dan. “We may have more stuff than ever,” Dan added.
