Solanco Neighborhood Ministries Prepares For Backpack Drive s summer draws to a close each year and the first day of school approaches, parents begin to check off the list of necessary supplies for their children. Preparing for the school year can be daunting, especially for those who may be unable to acquire all the items vital to their children’s education. Several organizations and members of the community have made it a primary goal to ensure students are well equipped for the fall. Among them is Solanco Neighborhood Ministries, which will host its annual backpack drive on Saturday, Aug. 13, at its main building at 355 Buck Road, Quarryville. The drive will be held

Teresa Dolan, executive director of Solanco Neighborhood Ministries, spearheads the operation with her team of volunteers. The drive is one of several endeavors that fall in line with the organization’s mission to meet the core needs of people in the community. “We work with families to get them the resources they require for food, housing, heat and any other basic needs,” said Dolan. “Many people don’t think of these things as health care, but it certainly is. Having your basic needs met is crucial to your overall well-being and mental health.” See Backpack Drive pg 5

Loss and grief are no small obstacles, and almost every community has experienced some type of tragedy that is felt throughout its foundation. W hether it is an individual experiencing loss or a community mourning as a whole, the journey of healing and growth can be a difficult undertaking. Pequea Church, located at 40 Church Road, Lancaster, will offer an 11-week GriefShare support group program to help those navigating grief. The program will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 23, and run weekly on Tuesdays until the final meeting on Nov. 1. GriefShare is led by Trina Barr, who first got the project underway in 2003 at Pequea Church. Barr began her own journey with grief after the tragic loss of her
