Fossils, Gems, Minerals, And More! In the market for minerals or hoping to acquire some quartz? Then check out the fourth Fossil, Gem, and Mineral Show that the Lancaster County Fossil and Mineral Club will host on Friday and Saturday, June 14 and 15, at the Hoffman Building on the Solanco Fairgrounds, 172 S. Lime St., Quarryville. The event will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 14 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 15. Club president Christopher Haefner said that experts will offer gems, crystals, and fossils from around the world for perusal or purchase. All sorts of

jewelry will be available as well. A total of 100 dealer tables are expected. Local geologist Jeri Jones will give free presentations on a variety of topics on June 15 in the Next Gen Senior Center building, located next to the Hoffman Building. Jones was the featured speaker at last year’s show. The schedule of presentations is as follows: 10 a.m., “Earthquakes f o r K i d s ” ; 1 1 a.m., “Select Minerals and Fossils From York and Lancaster Counties”; noon, “Fun With Fossils for Kids”; 1 p.m., “Gold in Southeast Pennsylvania”; 2 p.m., “Fun With Minerals for Kids”; and

3 p.m., “Geology of Southern Lancaster County.” During the two-day show, members of the Paradise Lions Club will sell hot food and beverages. The club will use the proceeds from concession sales to support select charities. There is a cost to attend the Fossil, Gem, and Mineral Show, which may be paid at the door. Both the Hoffman Building and the Next Gen Senior Center building are at ground level and have no steps. A familiar face has returned to lead New Hope Community Life Ministry, which is headquartered at 248A Maple Ave., Quarryville. Deb Riddell was hired to fill the role that Neil Uniacke previously occupied for seven years, and she began her tenure toward the end of May. She previously managed New Hope’s Community Closet Thrift Store, 128 TownsEdge Drive, Quarryville, from December 2008 to May 2015. As New Hope’s executive director, Riddell will work closely with the Community Closet’s current manager, Beth Tyson. “I understand what that environment is and what the working issues are,” Riddell remarked. “The thrift store funds us and allows our counselors to charge lower rates. It’s a great place to shop and donate good clean items.

The sixth annual FoodStock Music Festival, a fundraiser to fight hunger, will be held at Buchanan Park, 901 Buchanan Ave., Lancaster, on Saturday, June 22, from noon to 7 p.m.

During the event, attendees may enter to win prizes, shop at a craft show, listen to a variety of music, and purchase food and beverages. Children age 12 and under will be able to enter for free when accompanied by adults who have purchased tickets. See FoodStock Festival pg 13
