Community members of all ages are invited to Wesley Church in Quarryville for Undivided, a free event featuring music and a message. Taking place on Wednesday, June 15, from 2 to 9 p.m., the event will be headlined by American Idol contestant Colton Dixon.

The new building has three floors, and the first floor will be dedicated exclusively to the food bank. The second floor will offer room for seven offices, a conference room, a large program room and a commercial kitchen. The ministry plans to offer space to partnering organizations that currently offer resources in Lancaster city.

“We reach more children in the summer than during the school year because each week we are in a different location,” said Nadine Welk, children’s ministry specialist coordinator with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), perhaps best known for the Good News Clubs the organization runs after school. Over the summer, CEF organizes Five-Day Clubs, vacation Bible school (VBS) programs, and Good News Camps. This year, summer programs will be held at 17 locations in Lancaster County.

Capital Campaign To Fund New Summer Of SNMinistries Community Center Good News the new Community Center. The theme of the campaign is “Faith.Community.Cares.” The kickoff event was held in Huffnagle Park, which is situated behind the new building. “We rent the space at 355 Buck Road in Quarryville near the Quarryville Library,” explained Teresa Dolan, SNMinistries executive director. “ We are moving about a mile down the road into Quarryville borough (to) the former Masonic Lodge. It is really exciting, and it will allow us to do so much

Undivided originated last year as the idea of Wesley Church youth director Nathaniel Lacy. After seeing how much division was being generated during the COVID-19 pandemic, he wanted a way to reunite the community, particularly youths. “(Lacy) just really wanted to get young adults together to have a time of worship, have a speaker and have an artist. It’s really a community outreach,” said worship director Craig Deibler, who is organizing the event along with Lacy. “Wesley Church is hosting it, but it’s not for Wesley Church. We’re putting this on for the community and beyond.” Undivided was a great success last year, even though rain forced the event indoors. Organziers hope that the weather will be better this time. On the day of the event, a wide range of food will be available for purchase from food trucks that will be on-site from 2 to 5 p.m. There will also be plenty of free, waterthemed activities such as a water slide and a dunk tank.

According to Kelly Cullen, communications manager at the Clinic for Special Children, a large majority of the clinic’s patients come from the Amish or Mennonite communities, and over the past 33 years, the clinic has served over 5,000 patients. As a nonprofit organization, the Clinic for Special Children relies on community fundraisers to make up more than 60% of its annual budget, and one of its main fundraisers is the annual Lancaster County Benefit Auction. The 31st annual Lancaster County Benefit Auction will take place on Saturday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Leola Produce Auction, 135 Brethren Church Road, Leola. Admission will be free to the public, and a wide variety of items will be up for bids, including handmade quilts, carriages, household furniture, hardware, outdoor furniture, shrubbery, plants, gift baskets, and toys. “There’s a lot to enjoy at the annual auction,” said Cullen. “What I’m most looking forward to is just seeing so many community members come together in support of the Clinic for Special Children’s mission.

She was also part of the 4x100 relay team (Urbine, Carly Rose, Olianna Oravitz) that broke the school record twice and qualified but could not compete due to an athlete getting sick on Friday night. “Overall, it was a good weekend.” SOFTBALL After a disappointing exit from the Lancaster-Lebanon League championships, Solanco was looking to make some

place finisher after falling to Lampeter-Strasburg 5-1. That same 5-1 final score showed up again only this time the Raiders finished on top. “I thought Anna (Sexton) made some good pitches,” said head coach Brett Miller, “but it is tough to defend a bloop shot. They finished with just four hits on the day, two coming in the third inning and were left stranded. Marlee Haupt opened the seventh with a base hit, but two fly ball outs and a ground out ended Solanco’s season. “The game required us to make some offensive adjustments,” said Miller. “We kept popping the ball up. We needed to be more aggressive and to find the opposite field. To their credit, Twin Valley made some nice defensive plays.” Sexton finished the game with seven strikeouts and zero walks. She gave up five hits and five earned runs.

Peacock Esports Camp will take place on Monday, Aug. 1, through Friday, Aug. 5. Students in grades seven to 10 may hone their gaming skills with the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) collegiate esports team at the Center for Creative Exploration (CCE) at PCA&D, 204 N. Prince St., Lancaster. Youths will have the opportunity to meet the collegiate team members, receive hands-on instruction and coaching, and hear from guest speakers in various careers that support the esports industry. Topics will range from the current state of gaming and game design to physical fitness and care for gamers, as well as teamwork and communication. PCA&D will provide youths

the opportunity to play alongside current collegiate team members, meet and learn from interim coach and alumnus Benjamin Farley, and start to build a network across the gaming industry. Game play will focus on Overwatch with additional play in Rocket

Hoops Teams Announce Camps Solanco’s girls’ and boys’ basketball teams will hold summer camps at Solanco High School, 585 Solanco Road, Quarryville. The goal for all sessions is to provide a positive environment where players can develop their skills. Campers will receive fundamental and skill work daily. The girls’ camp will be held from Monday, June 27, through Wednesday, June 29, from 9 a.m. to noon for girls in grades two through nine.

Good News Club from pg 1 Welk explained that the basic ministry curriculum is the same for all programs, which begin with a 90-minute activity period including large group game time, welcome and prayer, a Word Up period with a catchy phrase concerning the main lesson, Bible verses and songs, a Bible lesson, a review, and closing games. Five-Day Clubs, which use the 90-minute basic format, are held in host homes. For the summer

of 2022, host homes have been secured in the Hempfield area, the Lampeter-Strasburg area, Lititz, Mount Joy, the city of Lancaster, Manheim, Manheim Township, and Paradise. Hosts generally invite participants to their home, where CEF summer missionaries and staff oversee the program. VBS programs are held at churches. They add a snack and a 30minute craft to the basic program. “The church that hosts us will pro-

Day camps, which are held weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., are scheduled for Grace Baptist Church, Marietta, July 11 to 15, and Elizabethtown Grace Church, from Monday, Aug. 8, through Friday, Aug. 12. “The difference with camp is that we add a lot of enrichment activities,” said Welk. “This summer, we will be focusing on the Wordless Book, which is a way of explaining salvation to children without any written words.” Campers bring their own lunches, but a snack is provided. “(For camps) we have water day on Fridays,” said Welk. “The kids are encouraged to wear a bathing suit with a T-shirt over it, and we use buckets and hoses, and the kids love it.” “Our theme for all our programs this summer is ‘Turned Around,’” explained Welk. “All of our lessons talk about how a belief in Jesus and a relationship with God transforms your life.” Welk said that CEF Lancaster summer missionaries and interns, ages 14 to 18, will train at Camp Harmony in western Pennsylvania in June. During their week at camp, they will learn the program and be evaluated on each part that they teach. “So it is older kids teaching younger about Jesus,” said Welk. Space is limited in the camps, and registration for each program is required one week before the program starts. The Colerain Alumni Association met recently to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The organization was founded in 1923 to allow graduates of the Colerain High School in Kirkwood and later Solanco High School to meet and reminisce. Members gather annually at the Bart Township Fire Company on a Saturday evening in April for dinner and fellowship. The gathering includes a meal and a program, which especially honors those who graduated 50 years earlier. The recent event was the 97th annual, as the group skipped one year due to World War II and the years 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19. This year, the earliest class represented was the Class of 1951, from which Howard Howett attended, and the Class of 1964 had the most class members present. Bruce Gross, Class of 1964, from Mont Alto was honored for traveling the farthest distance. Ken Walton was elected president for the next year, and Jeff McCardell served as master of ceremonies for the social period. Anyone who graduated from Colerain schools or from Solanco as a Colerain Township resident is welcome to attend future events.
