Go Beyond: A Week of Service will take place in Lancaster and Lebanon counties from Thursday, May 2, to Saturday, May 11, and several Southern End churches plan to participate in the communityfocused event. Victory Church, Providence Church, and Oak Hill Fellowship have coordinated activities during which their members will serve in the community, undertaking tasks such as doing yard work and construction projects for folks in need. Participating churches and business are also holding a diaper drive for crisis pregnancy centers and a shoe drive that will help to fund local projects. Go Beyond is a countywide initiative of local churches with a mission of uniting people to serve yearround. Each year, a week is designated as a coordinated time of

service, although the vision of the organizers is to ignite a culture of service in area churches and communities. This year’s kickoff will take place during the National Day of Prayer celebration at Lititz Springs Park, 24 N. Broad St., Lititz, on May 2, and the week will conclude on May 11 with Community Cleanups in Quarryville, Lancaster, and Myerstown. In Quarryville, a prayer walk will be held on Saturday, May 4, and a Community Cleanup and Family Fun Bash will take place on May 11. The prayer walk on May 4 will begin at 9 a.m. in Huffnagle Park, 20 Oak Lane, Quarryville, with a brief time of singing and a message of purpose. Then, the group will walk around the borough, stopping at key locations to pray for different aspects of the community. See Go Beyond pg 7

During Go Beyond: A Week of Service, which is set for May 2 to 11, members of the Southern End community may help with Community Cleanup events, go on a prayer walk, or celebrate with a Family Fun Bash.

The name of the event might be Gyrofest, but the anticipated star of the show at the sixth annual event on Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, will be loukoumades. “They’re the most sought-after item at the Greek Bazaar (held in the fall),” said Gyrofest co-chair George Soukas. “They’re crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. We serve them the traditional way. They’ll be freshly fried and drizzled with spiced honey.” Loukoumades are double-leavened, with both baking powder and fresh

event for the nonprofit organization. The Farm-to-Table Dinner and Celebration will be held on Friday, May 17, at See Farm-To-Table Dinner pg 4

Fourth- and fifth-graders meet at Solid Rock Youth Ministry on Tuesdays after school for fun, interaction, homework help, and a Bible lesson. The new Farmto-Table Dinner and Celebration on May 17 will raise funds to sustain this and the other programs offered free of charge by the ministry to area youths.
