Girls’ Lacrosse Teams To Host LAGLA Tournament By Dayna M. Reidenouer
For Doug Dalrymple, head coach of the Solanco Lacrosse Club’s girls’ teams, lacrosse is a lifestyle. “I love this sport; it’s a passion,” he remarked. Although Dalrymple did not play lacrosse as a youth, he quickly embraced the sport while stationed on the West Coast during his military service. His team included three All-Americans, so he was treated to high-caliber play. Dalrymple continued to be involved with lacrosse after he left the military and started a family. His children played lacrosse, and he still gets together with his former teammates to play about once a year. “In our family, we say we have to get our Vitamin L,” Dalrymple said with a smile. A decade ago, Dalrymple was tapped
by April Ennis-Pierson to coach the girls’ team of the newly formed Solanco Lacrosse Club. Since then, the club has grown, and interest in the sport has increased to the point that it would be a viable school sport, Dalrymple said. The club’s directors have had discussions with school board members about the possibility, and they are in the process of creating a formal request. “We would like to be a varsity sport in the PIAA. Adding lacrosse would give athletes another option,” Dalrymple said. “In the Lancaster-Lebanon League, 24 schools have spring sports, and 12 play lacrosse as a varsity sport. Of the other 12, only Solanco has a club. We are constantly searching for other teams to play.” Last year, the Solanco Lacrosse Club invited members of a private school league in eastern Pennsylvania to play See Girls’ Lacrosse pg 9
