The Solanco Historical Society will meet on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the society’s Archives Building, 1932 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville. The topic will be “Remembering Southern End Doctors,” presented by Alan Peterson, emeritus director of environmental and community medicine for Lancaster General Health. will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 321 W. Chestnut St., Lancaster, from 7 to 10 p.m. This is a group social dance for people of all ages with a different live band and caller each month. This month, Abigail Hobart will be calling with the band Contra Rebels. A workshop for new dancers will be held at 6:15 p.m. There is an admission fee, with free admission for youths age 15 and under. Neighboring Volunteers Sought To Help Fight Homelessness By Ann Mead Ash

In August of 2019, Bridge of Hope Lancaster and Chester Counties and Good Samaritan Services parted ways. Bridge of Hope, a national organization that fights homelessness through community support efforts, made the decision to operate Bridge of Hope programs separately in both Lancaster and Chester counties. In Lancaster County, Audrey Metzler became

the county director, moving into the organization’s new offices at 255 Butler Ave., Suite 205, Lancaster, in December. Metzler worked for Bridge of Hope for more than a decade, leaving her post in 2008 and returning to the organization and to Lancaster in late 2019. In her new role, she will handle some case management and train and coordinate local volunteer groups through churches and other faith groups, such as Bible studies and small groups. “I will be recruiting and training neighboring volunteers from local churches and matching

them up with families (facing homelessness),” said Metzler, who explained that groups help to support families who are on the brink of homelessness. She shared that responsibilities are often divided with designated positions, including a group coordinator, members who help find housing, a child care coordinator, and a transportation coordinator. With a touch of spring and a nod to Valentine’s Day, the Lancaster County Art Association (LCAA) is opening its garden show exhibit with a theme of “Hearts and Flowers.” Visitors to the LCAA’s Kauffman Gallery, located at 149 Precision Ave., Strasburg, will be surrounded by artwork featuring flowers, hearts, and garden-inspired images created by member artists. In addition, work by David Gibson will be featured in the LCAA’s Steinmetz Gallery.
