TRADITIONAL DINNER

Word UP Community Ministries will host a free “Soup, Sandwich, and Talk” event on Thursday, Dec. 27. Word UP is located at 160 Route 41, Gap. COUNTRY CHRISTMAS

130 Tennyson Drive, Lancaster, will host a “Country Christmas” worship event on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 6:30 p.m. The one-hour worship service will feature old and new country-style songs of the Christmas season and also a brief message. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the band Deep Holler Revival. Dress is casual, and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. The service will celebrate the message of Christmas and the joy and hope that it brings. All are invited to attend, and there is no admission charge. Annual “Messiah” Sing-Along Set For Dec. 28 The Chester County Christian Chorale will present the 32nd annual Chester County “Messiah” Sing-Along on Friday, Dec. 28, at 7 p.m. at Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1121 Octorara Trail, Parkesburg. Planting It Forward As the fallen leaves swirled in chilling winds on Nov. 10, a hardy group of volunteers assembled to plant trees at the Strasburg Community Park, 151 Precision Ave., Strasburg. The time had come to begin the installation of saplings in a grove that had grown tall enough to provide the necessary conditions for shadeloving understory trees. “Over five years ago, Strasburg Lions Club began participating in the annual tree planting at the park. Road Runners Plan Christmas Eve Activity By Ann Mead Ash

Volunteers representing the Strasburg Lions Club, the Strasburg Area Sertoma Club, and the Strasburg Community Parks Foundation, as well as several families, participated in the annual tree planting event at the Strasburg Community Park on Nov. 10.

“You show up with a friend or come alone and make a friend,” said Kathi Markley, a member of the Lancaster Road Runners Club. Markley was referencing the annual free Christmas Eve Run the club has held for about two decades. Markley wants those considering taking part to know that they will have company along the route no matter what their pace. “There are faster people (and) middle-of-the-pack runners and people who meander slowly,” she said. “You See Road Runners pg 8

Members and friends of the Lancaster Road Runners Club will gather once again on the steps of the Lancaster Dispensing Company for a special free Christmas Eve Run, with participante meeting at 8:45 a.m. on Dec. 24. Interested area residents are welcome to take part in the 4-mile jaunt.
