When Pequea Valley Intermediate School (PVIS) principal Arlen Mummau met Stewart Bauer, parent of a PVIS seventh-grade student, at back-to-school night in the fall, he learned that Bauer was a veteran. Recalling that several years ago PVIS held a yearly tribute on Veterans Day, Mummau turned to Christy Collins, lead administrative assistant, and asked her to organize a program for Nov. 12, the Monday after Veterans Day. “We want our (students) to not just hear (history) in class, but to hear directly from our veterans,” explained Mummau, who added that bringing community members into the schools is a priority. “It’s important to recognize that we have people right here in our community who fought for our country and were willing to sacrifice their lives,” he said. Pequea Valley Intermediate School Students wrote “dog tag” thank you cards to veterans who visited the school for the Veterans Day tribute. The event included a ceremony and opportunities for students to ask questions of local veterans.

Leacock Holiday Bazaar Scheduled Paradise Township Lions Club

Plans Fifth Christmas Market

By Ann Mead Ash

The annual Leacock Presbyterian Church Treats ‘N Treasures Christmas Bazaar has been held for many years, but each holiday season, organizer Loretta McClarigan likes to mix things up by changing the offerings at the event. For 2018, McClarigan and fellow organizers Lois Snader and Carol Shearer have added a Fashion Corner, a Disney table, and more to the seasonal sale. This year’s bazaar will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 3181 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise. There will be an emphasis on Christmas trees this year, according to McClarigan. “We have more Christmas trees than we normally have, and they range from See Holiday Bazaar pg 2

Preparing for the annual Treats ‘N Treasures Christmas Bazaar are (from left) Lois Snader, Carol Shearer, and Loretta McClarigan. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Leacock Presbyterian Church from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It started a few years ago when Paradise Township Lions Club member Marie Glass had a brainstorm, suggesting an indoor winter market similar to the farmers market the Lions then held in front of the former Paradise Elementary School in the summer. Now, the school, located at 3293 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise, is the Together Community Center (TCC) and home to The Factory Ministries, but it is still the site of the Lions Christmas Market, which will be held there on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission to the event is free. The fundraiser will benefit Lions Club projects. See Lions Market pg 4

Santa will be among the visitors to the Lions Christmas Market at the Together Community Center on Saturday, Dec. 1. Santa is expected to be on-site from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
