Library Friends Plan Book Sale, Holiday Yard Sale BY FRANCINE FULTON
hose who attend the book sale taking place at Moores Memorial Library in Christiana will also be able to shop for Thanksgiving and Christmas décor and gifts as part of the Friends of the Library’s combined book sale and holiday yard sale that will open on Thursday, Nov. 11, from 1 to 7 p.m. The sale will continue during regular library hours on Friday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 8 a.m. to noon. Admission is free. The sale will take place in the Read Moore Book Store, located in the lower level of the library. “Everything will be at reasonable prices that people are used to,” said Jeannette Kolb, Friends vice president. “We will have DVDs (that will be) buy-one-get-one-free and books at a discount. We have a lot of Christmas books.” Also for sale will be leftover donations from the Friends’ yard sale held this past summer, which netted nearly $400 for the library. The yard

sale items will be located in the community room next to the bookstore. “(The leftover items) gave us the idea to add to the book sale,” said Friends president Joan Esworthy. Community members who would like to donate yard sale items are asked to bring their donations to the library during operating hours. Books in the Read Moore Book Store, which come from community donations and the library’s collection, are displayed on unique shelving, including a canoe. There are also shelves that were made from a baby grand piano. “Someone didn’t want (the piano) and gave it to one of our members. They gutted it out and made it (into a bookshelf),” explained Karen Woods, Friends treasurer. There is also a young adult section featuring books displayed on skateboards and bookshelves made from rain gutters, which were repurposed by Friends member Janice Crills. Since the library’s building once was home to a bank, shoppers can find rare and unique books in the “vault.” See Library pg 11

Imagine four children ranging in age from kindergarten to third grade so enraptured by an hourlong presentation that they are surprised when it is over. What could grab and hold their attention? Why, music, of course, but not just any music. The four children were in a SWAN (Scaling Walls A Note at a Time) after-school class

During 2020 when COVID-19 restrictions were isolating people from each other, Global Disciples, an organization based in Lancaster, decided to find a way to bring them together. “In the midst of the pandemic, we said, ‘Is there a way for us to gather online and worship God? To gather all across the globe and express our unity in Christ?’” said global worship specialist Tim Bentch.
