In March, Chris Lenhart did not know that Calvary Monument Bible Church (CMBC), 1660 Mine Road, Paradise, would soon be looking for a lead pastor when he resigned from his associate pastor position at Wesley Church in Quarryville after 14 years. “I felt a call to leave the church I was at … to pursue a lead position in another local church,” said Lenhart, who still lives in the Quarryville area. “(I) stepped away in faith believing that God had prepared (an) opportunity. (My wife, Sheila, and I) trusted that God had worked out the details and prepared our next place.” Lenhart, who was raised in Holtwood and graduated from Penn Manor, said that he and his family were committed to staying within the county. For Jeremy Leaman, founder and director of Ten Million for Christ, who grew up on a farm south of Strasburg, the invitation to lead a Youth Evangelism Service (YES) team to Romania as part of Eastern Mennonite Missions became a life-changing opportunity. “From the spring of 1993 to the summer of 1994, (our team) worked with churches there,” said Jeremy, whose team started a Christian student movement and a church during the 15-month outreach. “I fell in love with the people, the culture, the language, the food, and the beauty of the countryside.” See Flag Football pg 8

The mission committee of Salem Hellers Evangelical Reformed Church is planning to send 10 church members to Guatemala in May 2019 to work with Orphan Resources International (ORI). “We will be going to orphanages and helping with deliveries,” said committee member Margaret Sensenig, referencing ORI’s food delivery program. To help fund the trip, the committee has scheduled its annual holiday bazaar for Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 2555 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster. The bazaar will feature food and up to 20 vendors selling craft items and products offered by home-based businesses. See Holiday Bazaar pg 8

Jeremy Leaman, director of Ten Million for Christ, played football with one of the boys from House of Hope in Romania during a recent visit. The organization will hold a fundraising flag football tournament and chicken barbecue at Petra Church in New Holland on Nov. 3.
