There will be an ambulance and a fire truck on the grounds for the children to look inside. “The kids loved that - seeing all the tools the firemen use,” pastor
JT Holderman said of last year’s event. Animals were another popular attraction last year. This year, there will be sheep and possibly goats for children to see up close. New this year will be a fun attraction for adults. “For the adults, we’ll have an inflatable that has three lanes,” explained Holderman. “You put a bungee on your back, and you run down to see how far you can get, and you compete to see who can go the farthest.” About 500 people attended the first edition of the Community Fall Festival. “It went very, very well. We couldn’t have had a better turnout,” committee chair Mandy Doutrich said. The Community Fall Festival is designed to be an outreach event that will be fun for everyone while increasing awareness of Bellevue Presbyterian Church. “We want to make sure the community first of all knows that we’re See Fall Festival pg 10

By Ann Mead Ash
This is only Gwen Didden’s second year helping to organize the Lancaster County National Day of Prayer for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding, but as director of Faith Friendship Ministries in Mountville, Didden fully understands the significance of the event to those dealing with mental health issues. “The (prayer service) is important because it brings hope,” said Didden. “This (event) couples hope and prayer (to offer) spiritual guidance (that) is so important for people who are managing mental illness or living with people who are dealing with mental illness.” See Prayer Service pg 4
Gwen Didden (left) and Cathi Myers (right) are two of the organizers of the National Day of Prayer for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding service that will be held at Calvary Church on Oct. 11. Strongman and motivational speaker Jon Pritikin opens his presentations with pop music that fills an auditorium with excitement. He rolls real frying pans into shapes that resemble a Teflon burrito, and he bends metal parts into U shapes while holding them in his teeth. The entire Pequea Valley High School (PVHS) and Pequea Valley Intermediate School student body roared w h e n h e p e r fo r m e d a t P V H S o n Sept. 12. But when Pritikin told the story of a child who was bullied because of his learning disabilities, the students’ reaction was serious and somber. See Speaker pg 10
Strongman and motivational speaker Jon Pritikin taught Pequea Valley students in seventh through twelfth grades about the importance of being kind to each other during an assembly held on Sept. 12. Pritikin’s visit was made possible by the National Character Education Foundation.
