5K And Book Sale To Run Same Day By Ann Mead Ash
As organizers were planning the 2018 Pequea Valley Public Library (PVPL) 5K Run/Walk, new library director Catherine O’Sullivan had a revelation. As long as people would be gathering for the run, why not hold a book sale? The third Bookin’ for Books 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Fun Run will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the PVPL, 31 Center St., Intercourse. Day-of registration will begin at 7 a.m. The 5K will start at 8 a.m., and the Kids’ Fun Run will be held at 9 a.m. The book sale will begin at 8 a.m. in the Perella School House, located at the library, and conclude at 3 p.m. The 5K is coordinated by Daniel Esh, who noted that the course is relatively flat and good for new runners. The run/walk will start and end at the library. Participants will travel through
an industrial complex behind the library to Queen Road. A turnaround will be located halfway between Harvest Drive and Pequea Lane. The course will then follow Harvest Drive to Clearview Road. A gravel driveway off Clearview will bring participants through the parking lot of a local business and back to the library. Refreshments, including fruit and water, will be available to runners at the end of the course. Organizers plan to give awards to the top three male and female overall winners and to top male and female runners in six age groups, including 14 and under, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, and 50 and up. All finishers of the Kids’ Fun Run will receive awards. There will be a fee for children to take part. Runners and walkers who wish to take part in the 5K may register at www.pretzelcitysports.com or pick up a See 5K And Book Sale pg 7

Servant Stage And LBC To Produce “Titanic” Musical
Commemorating 50 Years Of Faith Church To Mark Milestone Anniversary
By Ann Mead Ash

Wally Calderon, artistic director with Servant Stage Company, admits that there is an element of preconception in staging “Titanic,” the 1997 musical with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and a book by Peter Stone. “There is no surprise ending,” said Calderon of the musical that has been on his shortlist of shows for some time. Calderon loves the show because of its “character-driven depiction” of the historical events and the stories it tells that draw audience members into the story. “(Audience members grow) attached to the historical figures See Servant Stage pg 6
When pastor David Heil preached the first service for the congregation that was to become Faith Evangelical Congregational (E. C.) Church on Sept. 22, 1968, his topic was “ What Is the Church?” Heil delivered the sermon at Locust Grove Mennonite School along Old Philadelphia Pike to a gathering of 56. On Sunday, Sept. 23, at 9 a.m., Faith E. C. Church, 2124 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster, will celebrate 50 years of existence since that initial service. Area residents, especially those who have a connection to the church, are welcome to attend. Current pastor Joel Kime is looking See 50th Anniversary pg 4
