opportunity to compete at the national competition in Austin, Texas, on June 27 and 28. “I’ve been driving for 30 years,” Martin said. “I am an instructor, and I do take safety very seriously.” Martin has competed at the state level numerous times, placing second in 2025’s competition, for which she was honored by state Rep. Bryan Cutler. The state competition involves a closed course with pivot points, parallel parking, right turns and railroad crossings.
Ne w Pe q u e a Va l l e y h e a d football coach Andy Tibbins is hoping to see some new faces in Kinzers on Friday nights this fall. Getting the community invested in the high school football team will be instrumental in that effort. The first step is the team’s upcoming inaugural “Bags in the Valley” cornhole fundraiser at the stadium on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 1. For the fundraiser, the team and booster club are inviting those in the community to partner up in teams of two and compete in a traditional cornhole tournament, with cash prizes for the winners of the competitive “upper” division and noncompetitive “lower” division. “Part of this change is a shift in the overall culture of how we function,” Tibbins said. “Not just as a football team, but as a booster club. I wanted it to be a community type thing.” On the day of the rain-orshine event, gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Registration will begin at that time and run through 5:45 p.m.; the tournament will commence 15 minutes after that point. Pequea Valley’s football stadium is located on its primary campus, 4033 E. Newport Road, Kinzers. Along with the cash prizes, there will be a 50-50 drawing and drawings for baskets with items donated by community members and businesses. The Lancaster Stormers, Laserdome and Rere’s Cafe were provided as examples of potential baskets. Individuals need to be present at the event to win. Lapp Valley and Welders Steak Shack will have food trucks at the event. Pequea Valley Fire

oaching your own son can be an interesting dynamic. You must treat every player equally, which often leads to an unfair amount of criticism falling on your child. In the same breath, it can be difficult for many players to respond to coaching from somebody they see as a parent. Kevin and Logan Zynn found a way to make it work. Kevin, head baseball coach at Pequea Valley High School, coached Logan, who was recently named to Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association (PSBCA) Class 3A all-state team. “It’s been a difficult journey, but a rewarding one,” Kevin said. “I am not an easy coach to get along with, and my son got the brunt of that. He was extremely happy the day that he could start driving himself and didn’t have to ride home with me from practices and games.” “I couldn’t slack off at all,” Logan added. “He always wanted the best for me, obviously. He

Angie Martin is a state champion bus driver. Martin, a bus driver within Pequea Valley School District since 2006, recently placed first in Pennsylvania’s 47th annual School Bus Safety competition in State College, competing against the top 50 school bus drivers from across the commonwealth. The victory provided Martin, who has driven for Brightbill Transportation since 2001, the
