Cavod Campers To Stage “Mary Poppins Jr.” At Junction Center By Ann Mead Ash
Cavod Academy’s second 2019 summer musical theater camp has yet to begin, but Cordell Huyard, who will direct the camp’s production of “Mary Poppins Jr.,” is already praising the cast. “The cast is already blending well,” said Cordell, noting that the group had met for a read-through. “This is one of the strongest dance groups we have ever had in a junior show. We have a lot of triple threats in this cast,” he said, referring to performers who are proficient at singing, dancing, and acting. The cast, which is made up of Lancaster County students ages 10 to 18, will begin rehearsals at The Junction Center, 1875 Junction Road, Manheim, on Monday, July 29. Camp will run through Friday, Aug. 9. Performances will be held at The Junction Center on Saturday, Aug. 10, and Sunday, Aug. 11, at 2 and 7 p.m. each day. “Mary Poppins,” a musical, is based on the book by P.L. Travers, which is the pen name adopted by Helen Lyndon Goff, a British novelist whose childhood experiences provided inspiration for the story of Mary Poppins. Travers’ books were adapted by Walt Disney in 1964 into a musical film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. The Campers participating in the Cavod Academy musical theater camp set to take place at The Junction stage musical ran on Broadway from 2006 to 2013. Center in Manheim beginning Monday, July 29, will perform the show “Mary Poppins Jr.” at The See Cavod Campers pg 5 Junction Center on Aug. 10 and 11 at 2 and 7 p.m.
