MDS Coordinates Mask Effort By Ann Mead Ash

In early April, when Larry Stoner, Region 1 operations coordinator with Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS), 583 Airport Road, Lititz, learned that Bird-in-Hand Fabric, owned by Sylvan and Loraine Stoltzfus, had been

creating masks for anyone who requested one in response to the COVID-19 crisis, he was moved to involve MDS to help. “They had been making them for about two weeks out of the kindness of their hearts, and they were giving fabric and getting elastic and (wire) for the nose (to others who were making

them),” Stoner explained. Bird-in-Hand resident Manny Flaud, who is associated with the Lancaster MDS unit, knows the Stoltzfuses, and he contacted them on behalf of MDS. “(The Stoltzfuses) were overwhelmed with thousands of requests (for masks),” recalled Stoner, who noted See Mask Effort pg 5

Members of the Plain community are working with Mennonite Disaster Service to produce masks for health care workers and others in the county in need. The effort produced more than 20,000 masks in its first week.

Bryanna Still has always loved music. “I began my interest in music at a really young age,” said Bryanna. “I grew up listening to soulful old rhythm and blues and a lot of ’70s and ’80s music. Having that start really inspired me to be passionate about music.” In the fall, the Dayspring Christian Academy senior will head to Edinboro University in northern Pennsylvania to begin a double major in art and music therapy, an ambitious eight-year program that will earn her a doctorate in those subject areas. Bryanna’s journey to this point has not been likely, but her talents, love of art and music, and determination to succeed have helped her discover her potential and have influenced others, such as Diana Vuolo, founder/executive director of SWAN (Scaling Walls A Note at a Time), to take notice. PA Family Travel Fair Goes Virtual

By Ann Mead Ash

When Wendy Royal, editor of Where & When Pennsylvania and organizer of the third PA Family Travel Fair, realized that the 2020 fair, which was scheduled for April 18, would have to be canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions, she was heartbroken for the more than 50 exhibitors. When she learned that all of them were committed to doing the 2021 event, she wanted to do something to help them. On April 21, Royal finalized plans to take the fair virtual starting during National Travel and Tourism Week, which was held from May 3 to 9. The virtual PA Family Travel Fair launched on May 4 and will continue through Saturday, May 30. The virtual fair can be accessed at www. whereandwhen.com/virtual-pa -family-travel-fair or by using the QR code See PA Family Travel Fair pg 3

In 2018, Lititz resident Jennifer Martin began sharing her testimony in local churches. At New Life Fellowship in Ephrata, her testimony was recorded, and her parents, Jay and Rosene Hurst, showed the tape to their friends Drew and Cindy Metcalf, founders of We Help Children, a ministry with workers in several locations, including the Guatemala and the U.S. The organization works with children in orphanages and trains workers who serve in orphanages, among other efforts on behalf of traumatized children.
