Cavod To Present “Anne Of Green Gables” By Ann Mead Ash
“The cool thing about live theater and ‘Anne of Green Gables’ specifically (is that) Anne comes to life again for each generation,” said Cordell Huyard, creative director of Cavod Theatre. “A grandparent, a parent, a grandchild, and even a great-grandchild can come together and enjoy the show. (They can) have some laughs, shed some tears, and go home realizing how blessed they are to have their family.” Huyard looks forward to seeing audiences introduced to the redhaired orphan from Prince Edward Island when “Anne of Green Gables,” adapted from the 1908 book by Lucy Maud Montgomery, will be presented at the theater, 685 W. Main St., New Holland, at 7 p.m. on Fridays, April 5 and 12; at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturdays, April 6 and 13; and at 4 p.m. on Sundays, April 7 and 14.
Ashley Gage plays Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan who is accidentally sent to live with an elderly sister and brother - Marilla, played by Melissa Ticen, and Matthew Cuthbert, played by Caleb Zimmerman - at their Green Gables farm on Prince Edward Island. Because the Cuthberts originally wanted a boy to help out around the farm, Marilla, encouraged by her friend Rachel Lynde, played by Sue Heil, at first intends to send Anne back. But she and Matthew are charmed by the talkative girl, and Anne becomes a part of their family. The foundling also carves out a niche for herself in the village, finding a best friend in Diana Barry, played by Soren Lefever, and establishing a rivalry with classmate Gilbert Blythe, played by Derrick Lambert. The play is codirected by Monica DePaul and Alex Weaver. Huyard said that the tale of Anne See Cavod Theatre pg 2

Church Yard Sale Will Fund Roof Project By Ann Mead Ash
By Ann Mead Ash
After King Charles II granted him a charter for land in 1681, William Penn invited people with specific skills to come to live and work in the area, which he had named Pennsylvania. “When William Penn held a call for laborers to come over, potters were on his list,” explained Jennifer Royer, Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum curator. Into the late 1800s, much pottery was redware, earthenware vessels and dishes made from clay with a high iron content that turned the pottery red when pieces were fired in a kiln. See Redware Exhibit pg 8
Jennifer Royer, Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum curator, has organized the exhibit titled “Thrown, Fired, and Glazed: The Redware Traditions From Pennsylvania and Beyond.” The first part of the exhibit will be on display at the museum through the end of the year. Part two of the exhibit will open in March of 2020.
In fall of 2018, when Salem Hellers Evangelical Reformed Church member Jenni Simmons heard that the church building needed a new roof, she had an idea. “I thought, ‘If we have a yard sale and people donate (items to sell), all the money we would make would be profit,’” said Simmons. Simmons took her idea to Lorin Wortel, who is chair of the capital campaign for the new roof, and they presented the suggestion to the church consistory board, and it was approved. The resulting indoor yard sale will be held in the basement of the church, 2555 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster, on Friday, March 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 30, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. See Yard Sale pg 3
Organizers of the Salem Hellers Evangelical Reformed Church yard sale including (from left) Ann Dell, Nancy Dearoff, Jenni Simmons, Carlyn Bowman, and Jessica Carson display items that will be sold at the sale to help raise funds for a new church roof. The sale will be held in the church basement on March 29 and 30.
