When director Alicia Trescavage chose “Aladdin Jr.” for this year’s Pequea Valley Intermediate School (PVIS) spring show, she wanted a show that called for a large cast. “It is a fun show that incorporates a lot of students in the ensemble,” explained Trescavage, who is now overseeing a cast of 55 in a presentation of the Disney classic. Trescavage said that she likes this version of “Aladdin Jr.” because it incorporates songs from the animated movie and the Broadway show. The musical will be staged in the Pequea Valley High School (PVHS) auditorium, 4033 E. Newport Road, Kinzers. Shows will be held on Friday, March 20, at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, March 21, at 2 and 7 p.m. Based on the 1992 Disney film, which is an adaptation of the folktale

“Aladdin,” the plot tells of a young boy, Aladdin, played by Nick Ammon, who is a “diamond in the rough.” He encounters a friendly Genie, played by Logan McGrane; the beautiful princess Jasmine, played by Kylie Hanna; and the evil Jafar, played by Maddie Heverin. The show differs from the animated movie in that Aladdin has three friends rather than a pet monkey, and Jasmine has friends rather than a tiger. Additional songs include “Proud of Your Boy,” sung by Aladdin about how he had always wanted to make his mother proud of him. Jasmine and her friends sing “These Palace Walls,” a song that suggests she feels trapped in her role as a princess. Audiences will recognize many of the catchy and well-known favorites, including “A Whole New World.” Trescavage noted that choreographing “A Friend Like Me,” which is sung when See “Aladdin Jr.” pg 4
