After half a decade directing musicals at Pequea Valley High School (PVHS), Nathan Bankert has touched upon a variety of genres starting with “Phantom of the Opera” through 2019’s classic “Oklahoma!” This year, PVHS will stage “Grease.” “I thought I would do something with a different musical style,” said Bankert. “I hadn’t done a rock show at PVHS.” Bankert also noted that he wanted a show that reflected the personalities of the many Class of 2020 members in the cast. “I thought it was time for an upbeat, energetic, fun show, and I have an upbeat, energetic, fun senior class,” he said. “Grease” will be staged at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27; 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28; and 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29, at the school, 4033 E.

Newport Road, Kinzers. Bankert said that he wants area parents to feel assured that the show will be family-friendly. The play, set in the 1950s, tells the senior year story of a classic good girl/bad boy romance at fictional Rydell High. The Burger Palace Boys are enthralled by the summer fling of their leader, Danny Zuko, played by Elijah Elkins, with out-of-towner Sandy Dumbrowski, played by Faith Strenck. Sparks fly when Danny and Sandy, who never expected to see each other again, discover that they attend the same school. Sandy is befriended by Frenchy (played by Alexandria Martelli), who is a member of the Pink Ladies, led by Rizzo (played by Maggie Johnson), who is the girlfriend of Danny’s sidekick Kenickie Murdoch (played by Kolby Bills). Seth Karg plays Roger, another of the Burger Palace Boys, and Billy See “Grease” pg 6

The cast of the Pequea Valley High School production of “Grease” is preparing to stage the show at the school on Feb. 27, 28, and 29. Four songs from the 1978 movie will be included in the family-friendly show along with the music from the award-winning Broadway musical.
