onnecting homeowners in need of repairs with volunteers who have the willingness to help is one of the main purposes of Servants Inc., an organization that was birthed in 2005, when founder and CEO Trent Davis responded to the needs of those displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Flooding in York County in 2010 brought home the idea of working locally, and in 2021, the organization branched into Lancaster County. Having completed a number of projects in the EL ANCO area, Servants is now looking to build relationships with those located in the Pequea Valley community. “We are trying to develop more partnerships in that area specifically partnerships with churches,” said Keith Cotton, director of outreach with Ser vants. Cotton noted that developing a longer list of clients in greater Paradise who

could use services is also on the agenda. “We have regular volunteers in that area,” explained Cotton. “Some volunteers would prefer to work in the area where
they live (because) they like to support the community they live in,” he added, noting, “We want to balance the needs of the community with people in the
community who want to help.” Homeowners in need of help may apply by contacting Servants at 717-378-0336. Needs may include ramps, bathroom modifications,
flooring, roof and siding repairs, and more. Carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing skills are not necessarily a requirement. “We also put an emphasis See Servants Inc. pg 2

When organizers of the yearly Linville Hill Christian School spring banquet search for a speaker, they consider whom the entire community, not just families associated with the school, might like to hear. They also look seriously at questions facing youth. “A major challenge for young people in our nation is tremendous confusion around things that were considered basic 20 to 40 years ago,” said head of school Matt Buckwalter. After
considering those challenges, school representatives chose Christopher Yuan, author of “Out of a Far Countr y ” and “Holy Sexuality and the Gospel.” “(Christopher) has a fascinating journey,” said Buckwalter. Christopher will be the featured speaker at the Linville Hill 2024 spring banquet on Friday, March 22, at Beechdale Farms, 458 Beechdale Road, Bird-in-Hand. Appetizers will be ser ved at 5:15 p.m., and dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Christopher Yuan will share his Christopher is the son of story at the spring Linville Hill

About five years ago, when Erica Shirk moved from Pennsylvania to Oregon, pastor Dawn RanckHower of New Holland Mennonite Church (NHMC), 18 Western Ave., contacted Shirk’s daughter, Hilda, to ask what Erica had been doing for Union Community Care on New Holland Avenue in Lancaster. “Erica would make crafts for them,” explained Ranck-Hower, an avid crocheter who soon learned that Union Community Care was in need of afghans. Ranck-Hower explained that the afghans are given to babies of immigrants who

do not have a family member or friend here to make a handcrafted blanket for their baby. Ranck-Hower quickly connected with a few other crocheters at church, who then invited their family members to help out. The group’s first year making afghans for Union was 2021. More than 400 handmade items were created in 2023 and delivered in early 2024. Ranck-Hower reported that 223 afghans, 24 quilts, and 155 bibs were crocheted or knitted. “The year before that, we did about 200 afghans,” she said. The goal for the coming year is to donate at least 350 items. See Knit pg 7
