Advocating For Elementary Students ODC Presents First Stoner Awards

As a member of Grace Point Church, Karla Neff, who became director of PV (Pequea Valley) elementary advocacy at The Factory Ministries in August 2019, has been involved with The Factory Ministries most of her life. However, she was not planning to work there when she graduated from Pequea Valley High School in 2013 and began studying early childhood education at Liberty University. During college, Neff spent time doing community development and developing holistic programs in the South Pacific in Fiji. “(I was at) a farm where they taught (people) how to grow things and through that cared for people and had conversations and built

Karla Neff, director of PV elementary advocacy, displays artwork that was created as part of the art club she has started holding at the Together Community Center. The club is just a part of Neff ’s position, which also includes overseeing the Strengthening Families program held at the center.
In late summer and early fall of 2019, Occupational Development Center (ODC), 640 Martha Ave., Lancaster, presented the first Olivia S. Stoner Awards. The organization has designated that two awards, named for one of ODC’s founders, will be given each year. “One is to go to an individual or group of individuals and another to a business,� explained Ken Mueller, public relations and development manager for ODC. “The awards will be given to those who embody the spirit and vision of Olivia Stoner,� said Mueller, adding that recipients will be recognized for reflecting Stoner’s commitment to creating a better life for individuals with disabilities. (WMS), but according to his mother, head coach Malin Morrison, he does much more. “(Lucas) does all my promotions and statistics and everything I need on the computer,� said Malin, who noted that Lucas announces games and helps out during practice. While Lucas is a busy guy, he does not think of his work with the team in terms of job duties. “It’s a lot of fun doing this,� he said. “We’re not just a team. It’s kind of like a family. First “Everybody Shines� Pageant Announced By Ann Mead Ash
“I thought it would be nice to have a pageant where everybody wins, but they win for their own unique reasons,� said Kim Roe, organizer of the inaugural Everybody Shines pageant. “I wanted to promote the gifts of people with disabilities with no winners or losers.� Lancaster Down Syndrome Advocates will present the first Everybody Shines pageant on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Lancaster Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. Phoebe Roe participated in the York County Stars pageant in 2019. This year, she plans to take part in the first Everybody Shines pageant for individuals with disabilities, organized by Lancaster Down Syndrome Advocates. The event will be held at the Farm and Home Center on Feb. 16.
