Lancaster County Bird Club (LCBC) will proceed with a safe and socially-distanced Christmas Bird Count (CBC) option that National Audubon Society has offered for two of the club-sponsored CBCs. The Lancaster and Lititz CBCs will be held while the southern Lancaster count will not be held this year. The Lititz CBC will take place on Sunday, Dec. 27, and the Lancaster CBC will be held on Saturday, Jan. 2. The Lancaster and Lititz counts will be held with participants required to follow all applicable state and municipal COVID19 masking guidelines. This year, new volunteers will not be recruited to assist individuals already assigned certain sections within the count circle. Participants who take part in club-sponsored CBC activities this year are required to follow guidelines in the new state order effective Nov. 18 that

requires people to wear face coverings outdoors when they are with others who are not members of their household and they are unable to maintain sustained physical distance. Individuals interested in participating may contact compiler Ted Nichols II at 717-856-3851 or tanicholsii @gmail.com for the Lititz count or compiler Barbara Hunsberger at 717-5753712 or phunsberger@ comcast.net for the Lancaster count to inquire about any vacant/uncovered sections that may be available to be covered by an individual and members of his or her household. Alternatively, individuals who live within a count circle are welcome to contribute a feeder/yard count to the compiler. Individuals should contact the applicable count compiler for details on how to participate from their home. More information about the club can be found at www.lancasterbirdclub.org.

Giant Donates $2,500 To Power Packs so their children return to school on Mondays fed and ready to learn. Funds from the Giant Company will help provide holiday dinners to more than 1,000 families served by the organization. Other nonprofit organizations that received donations were Autism Wings in Plymouth Meeting, Big Heart Harvest in Douglasville, Capital Area Head Start in Harrisburg, Carlisle Area Family Life Center and Shiremanstown Fire Department. The Giant Company’s Giving Tuesday donation continues the company’s long-standing tradition of giving back during the holiday season. In November, the company donated a

record-breaking 10,000 turkeys to 28 partner food banks located across its footprint in time for Thanksgiving. Team members from Giant and Martin’s also contributed 500 volunteer hours to help pack boxes and restock shelves in advance of the holiday season. The Giant Company hosted an in-store food drive to further stock the shelves of community hunger relief organizations. Established in 2012, Giving Tuesday falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on holiday and end-of-year giving.
