Returning to class with a global perspective PEN

Last summer, Penn Manor’s Mary Wurzbach taught Ugandan students about self-sustainability through agriculture.
When Penn Manor High School wrapped up its final day of classes for the 202223 school year, its students and staff members left the campus to kick off their summer plans. Many kids and their teachers looked forward to vacations, barbecues, or simply escaping their classrooms for a couple months. Mary Wurzbach, however, had something else in mind; the agricultural
education teacher traveled a bit farther than the beach, spending four weeks teaching another class in Uganda. Wurzbach and nine other American teachers were selected for Teach Ag Uganda. The goal of the project, which is sponsored by the Fulbright-Hays Program, is to assist with agricultural education and training in countries around the globe. Wurzbach first heard about Teach Ag Uganda from one of her undergraduate professors when she was a student at Penn State University. Since this specific trip

As winter rolls around each year, food banks and community outreach programs across the country are often met with a stark increase in the demand for their services. While the holiday season is a time of celebration for many, the cold weather and additional expenses that accompany this time of year can prove challenging for others. To combat this seasonal challenge, Water Street Mission launched its annual food drive on Nov. 1, and
the organization is once again calling on Lancaster County residents to band together in support of their neighbors. “We already started to see an increase in demand for our programs in September, and we’re expecting another influx as the months get colder,” said Matt Clement, director of marketing for Water Street Mission. “We didn’t quite meet our goal last year, but we’re thankful that we got close. It really helped us make it through the winter.” The goal of this year’s drive is
