Candlelight Christmas Will Feature Music By Dayna M. Reidenouer
A wealth of musical entertainment will be part of the Early American Candlelight Christmas event hosted by the Conestoga Area Historical Society (CAHS) on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. Weather permitting, the Conestoga Elementary School chorus will sing carols while strolling the grounds of the CAHS property, 51 Kendig Road, Conestoga. Additional musical acts will perform inside Gundel Hall, which this year will be decorated with a 10-foot evergreen tree covered with ornaments made by Conestoga Elementary School students. Jack and Kendra Hamlett will sing country gospel music from 6 to 7 p.m., and the Penn Manor High School Manor Singers will perform from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Pianist Sharon Gantz will play between the two acts. CAHS board member Jim Kauffman noted that the Manor Singers have been a regular participant of the Christmas event for four or five years. “We get so many good reports about them, and so many people come,” Kauffman said. “It’s standing room only. And they say

Bill Rothermel
Dec. 14, in the Millersville Municipal Center, 100 Municipal Drive. The speaker will be automotive historian and freelance writer Bill Rothermel. Rothermel’s talk will be enhanced with archival photography and will trace the history of the Charles Schutte Body Company and the unique bodies for automobiles that were produced from 1916 until its demise around 1930. At one time, the company employed nearly 30 workers who customized automobile bodies at its South West End Avenue facility. Legendary marques included Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Hispano-Suiza, and Duesenberg. A subject of great controversy, founder Schutte left Lancaster under claims of stock fraud and misrepresentation to his shareholders. A question-andanswer session will follow Rothermel’s presentation. See MAHS Meeting pg 5

Holiday Gifts And Tasty Treats By Dayna M. Reidenouer
Santa Claus traditionally brings toys for good girls and boys, but sometimes he needs a little help. The members of the Friends of the Quarryville Library have prepared for that eventuality and will host a holiday gift and bake sale on Friday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library, 357 Buck Road, Quarryville. “In the past, we were all about the baked goods, and that’s still our focus, but we have tables and tables of gift ideas ranging from 25 cents to higher-end items,” said Deb Waite, who is co-chairing the event with Anne Fisher.
