Building A Community By Dayna M. Reidenouer

The motto of Providence Building Supply (PBS), 796 Lancaster Pike, Quarryville, is “PBS … where building your business is our business.” The retailer of hardware, household supplies, paint, pet care products, gardening supplies,

power tools, and more is dedicated to meeting contractors’ and homeowners’ needs, but it aims to meet the needs of a nonprofit as well. From Monday to Saturday, Nov. 18 to 23, community members are invited to bring specific kinds of nonperishable food items to PBS to fill Thanksgiving meal boxes that will be distributed by Martic Pantry. The food drive is a first for Martic Pantry, which was launched by Steve and Mary Lehman several years ago. The organization provides qualifying Martic Township residents with preloaded cards that can be used to purchase necessities at Martic Store, 561 Martic Heights Drive, Holtwood. Steve explained that he got the idea after visiting families on behalf of See Martic Pantry Food Drive pg 4

The annual Millersville Borough Veterans Day Ceremony will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the military memorial in Freedom Memorial Park, 9 Shertzer Lane, Millersville. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in a pavilion at the park. Seating will be provided for the ceremony, which is expected to run about an hour. Light refreshments will be served following the event. Individuals will also receive small American flags. Borough receptionist Donna Hunt will be on hand to help attendees find dedications inscribed in the bricks that pave the ground in front of the memorial wall. During the ceremony, Millersville Area Historical Society president and Army veteran J. Philip Gerber will acknowledge the seven bricks dedicated in

2019, bringing the total to 812 of the approximately 2,000 total bricks. Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony. “We want this to be a community event,” said borough receptionist Sue McCullough, who has coordinated the ceremony. “It will remind people about Veterans Day and the men and women who have served in the past and are serving today.” The event boosts morale among veterans, McCullough noted. “When you come and shake their hand and thank them for their service, they appreciate it,” she added. Those who “have served our country in times of war and peace,” as is inscribed in the granite plaque in the memorial wall, will be recognized during the ceremony. “One of the most meaningful parts is when we play a part of their branch’s See Veterans Day Ceremony pg 5

Mount Nebo UMC Holiday Bazaar Will Support Sanctuary Updates By Dayna M. Reidenouer

“It had been many years since this had a facelift,” finance chair Charlie Eggers commented as he looked around the unfurnished sanctuary at Mount Nebo United Methodist Church (UMC), 673 Martic Heights Drive, Pequea. The vast room had been built circa 1832 and boasted a tin ceiling and tincovered walls. While updates had been made over the years, it had been several

decades since the carpet had been replaced, and the paint was starting to show its age. The facility also lacked air conditioning. Thus, the congregation See Holiday Bazaar pg 6
