New Danville Fire Company Sets Chicken Barbecue BY DAYNA M. REIDENOUER

o tricks, but there will be treats at the next chicken barbecue fundraiser hosted by New Danville Fire Company, 43 Marticville Road, Lancaster. It just so happened that Charlie’s Chicken had an opening in its schedule on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, so after booking the small business to prepare the half-chickens, the fire company decided to play up the day. “We’re trying to add a little something to give back to the kids, said firefighter Mike Thomas, who coordinates much of the fire company’s fundraising efforts. Children who come through the chicken pickup line on Oct. 31 will receive candy. The event will start at 10 a.m. and run until supplies last. Barbecued chicken and meals will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. No advance tickets will be offered. Only cash will be accepted for purchases. Half-chickens will be available a la carte or in meals, each of which will also include a baked

There are plenty of topics upon which to disagree today, but a group of Lancaster-area churches wants to do things differently. “We really feel like now’s the time for the Church to come together to build relationships, said Matt Kroll, pastor at Lord’s House of Prayer and a founding member of Lancaster United Pastors. “Lancaster needs to hear the Church’s voice - not a church. latest news about Penn Manor schools. With permission, the app will send notifications directly to users’ devices to alert them to important announcements from the district. Additionally, the navigation structure is designed to allow users to easily access popular pages from www.pennmanor.net. “Nearly 70% of the traffic we see on our district website comes from mobile devices, and we wanted to provide the best experience for those visitors, said systems specialist Stephanie Svolto-Patterson. “We looked at the most-visited pages on our website and included those pages in our app to provide quicker and easier access to alerts, athletics, the district calendar, district contacts, district news, employment opportunities, lunch menus, school board schedules and agendas, school websites, and our speed dial page. The app was developed by Penn Manor staff members See Mobile App pg 3

This is the third chicken barbecue New Danville will host this year, which is a change for the organization. “Most of our fundraising comes from our rental hall, but being that COVID hit this year, we had a 90% cancellation rate due to the size of the groups, Thomas said. “We normally do two boot drives a year. The one in April was canceled, but we might do one in November. At the start of 2021, the Pequea Township Police Department will begin its five-year lease of the reception hall, which will provide the fire company with a consistent income. Some fundraising events will continue, though, to ensure that the fire company is in a good financial position, Thomas noted. Plus, apparatus will need to be replaced eventually.
