Bruce Gerlach will conduct the new season of the Lancaster Chorale, beginning with the first rehearsal on Sept. 8 at Calvary Church. New members are sought for the artistic, choral singing group.

Registration will open at 2 p.m. The group will continue to meet on Sundays thereafter, and every rehearsal is expected to run from 3 to 5 p.m. Anyone is welcome to join the chorale, and auditions are not required. The group was founded in 2000 and typically has had about 100 singers, said Bruce Gerlach, the chorale’s new director. Gerlach succeeds Jonathan Rajaseelan. “As the new conductor of the chorale, I hope to maintain and hopefully expand on the success it has had with its past conductors through the years,” Gerlach remarked. “My goal is to lead a group of highly proficient and trained singers and to have the most fun that they have ever had in singing.” See Lancaster Chorale pg 11

Rafiki African Cultural Festival will be held in Lancaster’s Binns Park on Sept. 14. The celebration of African culture will be a feast for all five senses, featuring music, food, and fashion. “We are trying to represent as many countries as possible,” said Dorothy Dulo, Rafiki Africa director and program manager. “We have 12 countries at the Lancaster event and three in York.” The Rafiki Africa Foundation is committed to helping African children and families transform their communities

through education, health care, and economic empowerment and sustainability. Although most of the work takes place in Kenya, the annual Rafiki African Cultural Festival celebrates the diversity of African countries locally.
