he newly renovated Millersville VFW Post 7294 banquet hall is open for business. T h e f a c i l i t y, l o c a t e d a t 219 Walnut Hill Road, hosts a plethora of post events and can also be rented by other organizations. Suzie Papavasilion, a member of Scout Troop 88, played an integral role in leading the restoration for her Eagle Scout project. Other Scouts and volunteers contributed. Banquet hall manager McKayla Herman said the work included painting the walls, installing new fans and new flooring, and putting sconces on the wall. “This banquet hall is home to a lot of different events,” said Herman. “We’re really well known around

the community here obviously, but we are also reaching as far as Conestoga and up to Columbia. I have people from York. “Rambo” Finds His Niche PEN

Spencer Stuart discovered the ideal outlet for his athleticism. The 2023 graduate of Penn Manor High School grew up with aspirations of starring on the Comets’ football team. After injuries derailed that dream, Spencer found a home on the rugby pitch while attending West Virginia University. “My favorite thing about rugby is how it has filled a large void in my heart that football left,” Spencer said. “Football meant everything to me as a kid and leading into high school, and my body just never let R130659

me be the player I was supposed to be.” Spencer will be a senior at West Virginia University this fall and is on track to graduate after the spring 2027 semester. He is pursuing degrees in history and philosophy and plans to begin working in the field of public history, where he is interested in architectural preservation and advocacy. Spencer is hoping to conclude his collegiate rugby career with a successful senior season. He will serve as backs captain alongside forwards captain Noah Kelleher and team captain Patrick Cooney.

Senior Expo Slated More than 50 exhibitors will be available to offer information on programs and services for older community residents at Sen. Scott Martin’s Senior Expo on Thursday, Aug. 27. The story is written as an allegory pointing readers to Jesus. Smoker used her talents to create original painted watercolor illustrations for the book. An illustrated hardback children’s book titled “All in a Day With Daisy” was recently published by three sisters, Judy Smoker, June Hollinger, and Rhonda Nissley, who grew up in Strasburg as the Siegrist girls and are now married and living in Lancaster County with families of their own. In 2023, a year after their mother passed, the sisters took a trip to Florida to reminisce and visit Marco Island, where their parents enjoyed vacationing. While there, they talked about how they felt God prompting them to find a way to carry on their mother’s legacy by using their talents for God’s glory and sharing Jesus with others. After going on a dolphin tour in Florida, the sisters came up with the idea to use their talents to create a children’s book. The story centers on Daisy, a lovable dolphin, and her friends Max the Manatee and

our communities with the local news and information they value, we have made several thoughtful business decisions regarding how our newspapers are distributed. These changes will help us operate more efficiently while maintaining our longstanding commitment to the communities we serve. The street clock is housed in the museum’s newly expanded Public Time gallery. “ T he Q uinc y Galler y extension to the Public Time gallery added over 500 square feet,” Bugh s h a re d . “ T h e A n s o n i a Street Clock is such an important addition that the space is used exclusively to display Quincy, its separately displayed movement , along with documented history and photos.” The Quincy is the best of three surviving examples of an Ansonia street clock, and one of only two of its ornate design still in existence. In April, 23 members of the Tower and Street Clock Chapter, NAWCC staff members and local NAWCC volunteers helped during “Quinc y Week” to apply goldleaf to the decorative elements of the clock. “On Saturday of that same week, the clock was erected in the new Quincy extension of the Public Time gallery,” Bugh said. “For the first time in over 12 years, Quincy was standing tall again - and this time in its own dedicated space within the NAWCC Museum.” On July 25, a formal dedication of Quincy took place at the museum, with about 120 people in attendance. The ceremony included a ribbon cutting, the formal opening of the ne w Q uinc y ex tension and a program on the history of the clock. “Standing next to nearly 19 feet of a gilded, ornate, tick ing stre e t clo ck is something you won’t soon forget,” said Laura Taylor, managing editor of the NAWCC. “The beauty and

To say that the newest addition to the National Watch and Clock Museum will make a big impact is a bit of an understatement. At almost 19 feet tall, the two-dial Ansonia Street Clock (which the museum refers to as “Quincy”) is by far the tallest timepiece housed in the building, located at 514 Poplar St., Columbia. The massive clock also took a long journey to come to its final resting place, where visitors can see the clock in person and learn about its history. “ T he A ns oni a S tre e t Clock was first erected in 1887,” in Quincy, Ill., said Don Bugh, president of the Tower and Street Clock Chapter of the National Association of Watch & C lock Collectors (NAWCC). The clock traveled 5,000 miles from where it was manufactured in Brooklyn, N.Y.; to Quincy; to Memphis, Mo.; to Los Alamos, N.M.; to Tampa, Fla.; and finally to Columbia. “It was such a rare

The DD-214 is a Department of Defense document issued upon a service member’s retirement, separation, or discharge from active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. It contains information needed to verify military service for benefits, retirement, employment, and membership in veterans’ organizations. This hands-on role splits time between the plants, maintenance, and nursery operations. You will be responsible for operating equipment (tractors and skid steers), driving 16’ and 26’ box trucks for local deliveries, assisting in facility maintenance, and participating in the hands-on growing of plants. Horticultural work may include but is not limited to seed collection, propagation, shearing, pruning, and staking of plants. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors and possesses the physical strength to regularly lift 30-35 pounds. The work is seasonal in nature, requiring longer hours in the Spring/Fall and shorter hours in the Summer/Winter. Assistance with weekend duties during the growing season is required, this is a shared responsibility and generally occurs every 3rd weekend.
