ashington Boro will welcome acclaimed vocal group The Martins to the Central Manor Campmeeting, 798 Central Manor Road, on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. The concert will be held in the main auditorium, located in the center of the campgrounds, and will be free to attend. The auditorium is an open-air pavilion that can accommodate close to 800 attendees; guests are also invited to bring their own chairs and sit around the perimeter. Composed of siblings Judy, Jonathan and Joyce Martin, natives of Hamburg, Ark., The Martins released its debut album, “From Arkansas With Love,” in 1989. National and international recognition swiftly carried the trio to success in the 1990s, with performances at The White House, Carnegie Hall and The Grand Ole Opry and for various nationwide audiences. The Martins has acquired eight Dove Awards from The Gospel Music Association and three Grammy nominations. Following their initial foray into the industry as a group, the members of The Martins disbanded to pursue individual music careers. After almost a decade, the siblings assembled once more to release the single “A New Day,” produced by Jay DeMarcus of country band Rascal Flatts. The return proved to be only the beginning of a new chapter for The Martins; in May 2014, the group recorded and released the album “A Cappella” with arranger Lari Goss, which included collaboration with producers Michael English, David Phelps and Matthew Holt. The release yielded not only a Grammy nomination for Best Roots Gospel Album, but also a Dove Award nomination for Inspirational Album of the Year. Returning to the studio again in 2018, the trio released full-length album “Still
Lori Breece, manager with United Disabilities Services (UDS) service dogs, especially likes coming to work on Wednesdays because that is when Quincy, a UDS ambassador dog, spends the day with her. “(Quincy) is the best dog,” said Breece. “This morning, I dropped a paper towel, and he picked it up and gave it to me.” Quincy was trained to be a full-service dog, but health issues kept him from that role. Ambassador dogs represent UDS by visiting sponsors and doing demonstrations, among other jobs. Recently, Quincy posed for promotional photos at Crossgates Golf Club, 1 Crossland Pass, Millersville, to help advertise the annual golf tournament to benefit the program. The tournament will be held on Friday, Aug. 26, beginning at 7 a.m. Sponsorship and registration details may be found at https://ud services.org/uds-service-dogs -golf-tournament-2022.
