Motorcycle Ministry To Offer Coffee Break By Dayna M. Reidenouer

The Saddlebag Riders TEAM of Motorcyclists for Jesus Ministries has hosted an annual biker breakfast during each of the past three summers. The fourth annual event will be held on Saturday, July 25, from 7 to 11 a.m. at Washington Boro Park, 2010 River Road, Washington Boro, but it will look somewhat different than in previous years. Saddlebag Riders member John Young noted that because of precautions against the novel coronavirus, the group has opted to offer doughnuts, coffee, and bottled water instead of a full breakfast. There will be no charge for the refreshments, but donations will be accepted for the Wounded Warrior Project. Saddlebag Riders TEAM members will be available to offer bike blessings and to pray with anyone who asks. The event is open to everyone, not just motorcyclists. For safety, people should wear masks while stopping at the park. According to the order issued by Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Rachel

Levine, masks covering the mouth and nose are required to be worn when people are outdoors and unable to consistently maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from people who are not part of an individual’s household. The mission of Motorcyclists for Jesus Ministry is to enjoy the sport of motorcycling and to share God’s love by assisting fellow motorcyclists with their personal and spiritual needs. The Saddlebag Riders have adopted Matthew 28:19 as the TEAM’s theme verse. Also known as the Great Commission, the verse relates the words of Jesus Christ when He charged His followers to make disciples. TEAM stands for “Telling Everyone About Messiah.” A chicken barbecue event is being planned for later this year. Young said the date and location will be announced once the plans are finalized. To stay informed about the barbecue and the other TEAM activities, readers may find “Saddlebag Riders” on Facebook or contact TEAM president Chuck Moore at 717-224-8790 or chuckmoore903@gmail.com.

UDS Service Dogs Program Plans First Golf Outing Cruisin’ For Cats Car Show Slated

UDS Service Dogs (from left) Gibson, Henry, and Kirby were matched with clients in June and have begun team training in preparation for providing assistance to people with physical or intellectual disabilities. The organization will host its first golf outing on Aug. 28 at Meadia Heights Golf Club to raise funds to support the program.

UDS Service Dogs will host its first golf outing on Friday, Aug. 28, at Meadia Heights Golf Club, 402 Golf Road, Lancaster. Program manager Lori Breece hopes it will become an annual event. “We have been trying to find a signature event that can bring in strong revenue for our program and get the community engaged,” Breece remarked. Landis Communities offered pointers in planning the event. Volunteers met with representatives of golf courses around Lancaster County to see who would want to partner with UDS Service Dogs, and Meadia Heights was the most eager. The Aug. 28 date was scheduled in August 2019. Breece said that when the shutdown occurred, she was afraid that the outing might have to be postponed or canceled, but final planning for the event is going strong. On Aug. 28, golfers may check in beginning at 8 a.m. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. and will take a scramble format. Refreshments will be provided.
